Why are contact capabilities so poor?

I recall an old Kyocera I had back in '03 that stored full contact info: name, address, email, zip codes, several numbers, etc.

My newest phone, a Samsung a930 does not have this nor does my wife's LG 8300.

Is this because VZW wants us to subscribe to Plaxo service or to upgrade to a smartphone w/ a lot of bells and whistles? Extremely annoying. makes me consider looking around when the contract is up. At least see what else is out there...

If you do look around, try a Sony Ericsson phone. You'll like all the different contact information you can store in them.

A majority of the population has no need to store physical addresses for their cellphone as the phone has no capability for sending anything to a physical address. It would be a nice tie in for VZ Navigator I guess to give you directions to someones house... but for the most part the phone is only going to store information needed for things it can do (call, text, email)

I have no idea what Plaxo service is, but I can say that VZW doesnt care if you subscribe to it or not.

Unless you have a data plan on a smartphone VZW also doesnt care if you upgrade into one or not. If you dont have a data plan on a smartphone (which means you have it for a reason other than internet and email) it is just a regular phone as far as billing is concerne...

I have a different philosophy re the contacts: I'd like to conveniently carry my contacts in my cellphone so I have access to them all the time (since I have my cell phone all the time). I'm not interested in directions--just the data.

And since it was part of the Kyocera phone software (i guess that was not VZW's proprietary software 5 yrs ago) I do not understand why they regress on a feature.

Plaxo is a web based contact software (plaxo.com) that is available through Get It Now. $4.95 per month so I'm pretty sure VZW DOES have an interest in you subscribing to it. I did try to subscribe but it was so buggy, I dumped it (and VZW techs were clueless about it--did not even know what it was)

I'm told Sprint phones have a very...

Sprint might have good capabilities for storing contacts but is it that much more important then good coverage and way better customer service? You can get into some of the smart phones that are out now for not to much money and don't have to get the data plan (with the exception of Blackberries).

they have fantastic default capabilities, including a memo section, addy, email, etc. the customer service is bad, but later this year you could feasibly take a sprint phone an put it on your VZ account. Open access; do a search for it on the forums.

Not sure what other phones may do this but I can add a note to the bottom of a contact. I have stored a few address's there that I know I will need from time to time.
