Insurance game is coming to an end

The comments below are limited to certain midwest markets, but over time the policy will probably be standardized.

New rules that took effect Jan 1, 2005 prohibit adding insurance more than 15 days after the purchase of the phone.

Even before this rule took effect, the process for adding insurance after purchase had certain safeguards. In my market, the insurance policy did not become effective until the phone was used to make an outgoing call.

The monthly insurance premiums are increasing in many markets, and the cell phone insurance companies are cracking down on fraud. In some cases they are opening investigations into those cases wher claims are filed shortly after adding the insurance, and some of these bogus claims have been d...

I've quickly leader to expect nothing short if idiocy from your posts muchdrama. Thank you.

It's unfortunate that because I chose to follow the law and well... general courtesy, I'm labeled the “insurance police”. Would I be correct in assuming that since I'm now part of the insurance police you're now a criminal?

So why don't you enlighten me Chuck/Larry/Skippy?
Your flame which somehow correlated "Insurance Police" with me “REALLY” loving the topic of insurance was some nice backpedaling.

To make it even better you supported your “Insurance Police” comment by saying that I’ve made several posts on the topic. To which I replied that you’ve done the same. Seems pretty clear to me. What am I missing?

Okay. I caught you rambling on about the topic in the Nextel forum, and then I caught you doing the same thing in the Verizon forum. No backpedaling needed. I anwered your original posts. Do you get it now or shall I bring my laptop for a powerpoint presentation?

I'm so glad you were there to catch me! To think this whole time I thought I could get away unnoticed when posting in a public forum.

I have never denied posting in either forum. My comment was that you were in those forums as well which either kills or allows you to join in on your implication that I loved the topic of phone insurance. If you would have preferred I could just simply have called you a hypocrite?

I would prefer a presentation in Macromedia Flash.

Seriously why is this definitively a bad or a good thing. It just is an interest of theirs. 🙂

I have no ill will towards the topic of phone insurance. My original comment was actually aimed at the topic of preventing fraud.

This discussion is a result of muchdrama's personal attack made in the first post of his in this thread. It also has to do with his previous comment towards commiting fraud in the Nextel forum.

Read the field at the top of this screen. You're in the Verizon Wireless forum. The 15 day policy is in effect right now in many VZW markets.

yeah it's funny when the customer breaks or looses their phone and then gets upset because they cannot add insurance after the fact and they ask why and you explain "well that is considered insurance fraud".. duh

or when they add insurance, make 2 claims the first month, get 2 phones, cancel the insurance and then add 2 more lines to their account

In the Midwest market this has been the case since October 15th.

Insurance can ONLY be added on within 15 days of the purchase date.
Insurance is now $4.99/month (or $5.99 for Total Equip Covg including an extension to the 1yr warranty).

I was just making a subtle joke about "people who think the rules don't apply to them."

I am not personally familiar with any case in which a fraudulent cell phone insurance claim was actually prosecuted by local authorities. But the insurance companies are beginning to crack down.

If you report your phone stolen, and then the ESN of the "stolen" phone magically appears as an active phone on your wife's account, with the same last name and the same billing address, the insurance company might convince the local prosecutor to get involved.

Lots of VZW customers don't realize, until they lose their phone, that they are dealing with a real insurance company that is completely separate from Verizon.

And quite frankly, the younger or ...
