hey, new here but been reading for a long time. quick question on lte: will lte use sim cards (or something similar)? the reason that i ask is b/c i've worked for gsm providers in the past and love the ease of switching sim cards. however, i have had verizon for a while and would love to see a switch to this, while being able to keep verizon. thanks.

I agree. It technology that is in testing phases, we still got 2 years before a commericial release and everyone is all LTE, LTE, LTE. Was this how it was when WiMax was when Sprint announced it?

I think Verizon will probably stay SIM free. The devices Verizon will have will be CDMA underlined technology with LTE. Since their phones don't use SIM Cards now, why would they change for data, unless LTE specs will be VoIP out the box both here and aboard so you could take your CDMA based LTE phone and still make calls while in Europe without a GSM chipset.

sorry you "find it not remotely possible that its a coincidence", but it is. i've looked all over this forum and didn't found my answer, so i asked the question. i find the fact that verizon chose lte as their 4g path interesting and just had a simple question that required a simple answer. thanks to you that helped me out. 'preciate it!

It will be up to the carrier, the technology does not require it at this time. The final specs for it may be built around using them, but most likely will be made versatile enough to allow the carrier to choose.
