I think this is funny.

I'm not with Verizon or anything, but my cousin recently switched from Nextel to Verizon, and they gave him $50 off of his phone (Moto V710) for switching from Nextel. Not for switching to them from any other carrier, but just because he was switching from Nextel lol. I think that's pretty cool and funny. 🤣

Are Nextel and Verizon two bulls locking horns or something? Has anyone else had an experience like this?

That sounds like a load of B.S. to me used just to close the sale.

I heard it was because of Verizon going head to head on Digital PCS ,and Sprint gobbling up nextel, to go head to head on competition and for upcoming spectrum from FCc.

I believe the real competition will begin once a competing carrier is willing to pay the early termination fee for the customer just like the home long distance carriers did in the 80's which now has made the mammoth AT&T pull out from the business and MCI go bankrupt.

Well, my cousin and me went to the VZW store and he know already what he wanted. The sale was closed already when the VZW guy there was working some stuff out on his computer, when he asked my cousin what carrier he switched from.

Verizon's definitely not happy with Nextel's PTT success...especially since they can't emulate it. And now that Nextel's got their new spectrum and a new parter (Sprint), I'm sure Verizon is certainly taking notice.

seems like all the carriers are starting to merge and thats what is going to happen. its kind of like when cars first came out. first there were a lot of smaller carriers then they all merged together and then there were just a few bigger ones.

cingular and at&t were one of the firsts and it was a good move on cingular's part. and i keep hearing about verizon merging with different people but nothing has happened. like i heard they were going to buy sprint, then nextel but then sprint and nextel got together, and then i heard alltell. so when is it going to happen? i support verizon all the way and they have the overruling coverage, but they need to kick some serious bootay if they want to stay up there.

1.5 million subscribers per quarter isn't good enough? They'll overtake Cingular pretty quickly at their current rate. There's no reason for them to merge with anyone...but they do have their eyes on Alltel.

42.1 million as of end of 3Q04 1Q05 should be out in the next few weeks...

By the way, net customer addidions for 3Q04 for VzW were just over 1,674,000 so it's a little more than 1.5 mil.

Cingular is just over 46 million...

VZW along with the other carriers make it available on their own websites... You just have to dig through the "About Us" portion.

i think that is awesome that cingular had to merge with one of the biggest customers to beat verizon and verizon is just shy of having #1!

Cingular didnt do to shabby 4th quarter... 1.8 million net adds bringing them to a grand total of 49.1 million subs... unless verizon can keep up the pace, i dont know about them catching up.

Agreed. VZW looks on track to re-take #1 without any help. But even so, Alltel probably increasingly looks like a "Why not?" to them.

Q-4 adds totaled 1.7 million bringing customer count to 42.9 million and we dont have to be the biggest to be the best, we are still the best and highest rated, check out Consumer Reports

Yes, but at that 1.7 million rate, vzw is not keeping pace with cingular. They added 1.8 million. That seems like a small difference but when the quarters start adding up that way, Cingular will be pulling away. I love Verizon, but they need to do something to keep pace.

Pace???? This was the first time Cingular added over a million customers. How many customers did Cingular and ATT add all year??? Verizon added over 6 million. One quarter doesn't make a powerhouse, Cingular had a couple of good quarters when they were first formed but then dropped off. Cingular also has lots of ATT customers that are bad debt that weren't churned before the merger. I expect to see Verizon have a better first quarter than Cingular, any one agree??

I agree.. but who knows after the merger between cingular/at&t, they might finally have steady growth... guess we will have to wait and see... 😳
