Analog Networks to Go Dark On Monday
"Monday, February 18, the FCC will allow wireless network operators to shut down their old analog networks. These networks, built in the 1980s and called Advanced Mobile Phone Systems (AMPS) were some of the first used in the U.S. Network operators can also turn off their first-generation TDMA digital networks. Verizon Wireless and AT&T plan to shut their analog networks down on the 18th. The number of AMPS and TDMA users is low, so most wireless costumers will be unaffected. Other, regional network operators will likely turn their analog networks off as well."

In this regard, I'm wondering how service will be affected in those areas where Verizon's extended network utilized analog providers. Does anyone have any idea?

well i took out my old LG 6100, forced it to Analog by pressing menu 000000 and then network select and the analog only and I can still call 511 (thats the local free check the weather number). PS I am in SD. The eastern part is completely Digital but in the West part of SD (rural) there is still a lot of analog only! So I wonder if they will hold off to avoid angry customers!
I also have an old Nokia 6255i for alltel. If anyone knows how to force that to Analog only to see if alltel shut down, please inform me! Thanks~!
