Will I need a new phone when they get rid of analog?

I am and have been using for YEARS a motorola Startac. A verizon rep at the store said when they get rid of all the analog towers I will need a new phone. My Startac is a tri mode, so it has digital and analog.
So is this true, or will I still be able to use my phone just with the digital signal? And does anyone know when this is suppose to take place?
I have another account with verizon (thru work) and have gone through many phones, none of which works as well (reception wise) as my ole startac. I would really hate to have to get rid of it.
Any info would be appreciated.

You should still be able to use your Startac with the digital signal. The rep you talked to probably assumed that it was incompatible with digital signals because of how old it is. Keep in mind that the Startac has been around longer than the majority of reps that work for the company, me included. If you talked to someone that's been with the company for say...6 months, I'd say that there is a good chance s/he had never even seen that phone before.
Long story short:
You have nothing to worry about.

Rob is right, there is nothing to worry about. Although you have experienced good reception, I'd expect that to decline because it's possible you picked up some analog when your other phone didn't. With analog gone, your startac's reception will now be comparable to the other phone you have.
Help yourself out and dial *228 then press option 2 when you get prompted.

not sure how true this is but.... i heard that a lot of the older phones use more wattage, and that was y they got better reception. where as the FCC has regulated the amount of watts a current phone can use or transmit, which can make the phones seem weaker and force the carriers to build larger network base of towers.
k now make me look like a fool. ;)

Any word on when Verizon will be ALL digital?
Whats nice about these older phones is no gps too!

Verizon is already all digital. Their towers went down on the 18th. If you're getting an analog signal, you're probably pulling it from a tower that isn't owned by Verizon.
