My Texting Issues

OK, I just got my Voyager Friday, and since then, I've been getting a lot of VZW free text messages (900-080-004221) spamming about downloading mobile email get it now, vznavigator, and every time I text my non VZW friends- EVERY TIME- I get a message saying "messages sent to non-VZW customers with graphics/tones/formatting and/or 160+ characters are sent as plain txt with only the first 160 characters."

I never had this problem with my old phone, and I've called VZW CS to ask them to stop this spam. I have the NW premium plan so I know they're free, but I don't want to keep getting the same messages. They tell me the only thing I can do is block texts in general. Any of you guys have any feedback as to what I need to do, or if the CS is ...

well, when you set up the account, the nice rep left the market offers set to yes for txt msgs. so thats y you're gettin the "spam" txts. im pretty sure that CS can turn those off in about 5 secs. just keep calling back til you get someone who actually wants to do thier job

OMG thank you! After they transferred me to tech support the tech guy said he "opted me out" of VZW texting.

I still get the 160+ text msg though but I guess I just have to write shorter texts lol

no prob man. and yea most phones dont support over 160 chars in a txt msg. really only vzw premium phones do. so keep it short and sweet, thats what txting was made for anyway 😉

heres the deal with texts for vz nav mobile email ect. these are things that come with ur plan and u havent downloaded them. They will send u the texts so u dont forget to download the apps. once u download them the texts will stop.

sending texts to non-vzw customer the messages cant be more that 160 character. their phones cant habdle anything that big. also diferent color texts and texts with vzw graphic wont send to there phones either.

hope this helps!

actually, it's odd you say that. i've had at&t for 7 years and i don't remember when i couldn't do anything over 160 characters. when we tried out verizon sending messages to my friends with at&t i got that message from verizon. verizon doesn't want to support it out of their network. at&t can do it all day long so why can't verizon? i think it's their communist attitude.

latincandy78,

The reason you are getting the "spam" messages on your phone is because the vznavigator and mobile email are included in the NW Premium Plan, but do not come loaded on the device. You are currently paying for these 2 features and not utilizing them. In order to stop these messages, download the 2 apps and you should be set.

As for the error message when texting non-vzw customers, you are most likely sending more than 160 characters in your message. VZW phones support sending a total of roughly 1120 characters (7 logical messages @ 160 characters combined into 1 physical message. Notice counter at top of text message screen when composing you should see a 1/7 then a 2/7 then a 3/7 and so on) Make sure the counter does not...

About the 160 character thing. May be a nuisance but the loophole there is to send it as a pic message. That allows you 1000 characters.

Hope that helps
