best phone for text messaging

Never used text messaging before now but last month found myself needing to. Thought they were only 10 cents per text (and found out after sending 100!) that they are 20 cents each. UUGGH...

SO, now I am on a search for a good phone for texting because I am definately going to start using that more. I was looking at the ENV. Is that the best phone out there for texting? I have always bought Motorolas (even had the voyager for a day or so and didn't like the sound quality--too muffled) and am worried that the LG's may all be a muffled sound quality.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

get something with a keyboard. It makes texting soooo much easier. The update to the env should be out soon. Or just get the env now whiles the prices are probably still hot. I use a blackberry for my texting and email needs and I love it. But there is an additional cost to own a blackberry. The env is prolly the best phone in terms of value when it comes to texting centric phones.

I find the EnV and Voyager to be complete letdowns in the texting department. Full keyboards suck. You can type much faster with T9. The best phone VZW has ever released for texting is the LG-VX8300. The keys were perfect, and you were able to set individual text ringers for the different peeps. Since that phone's demise I would have to go with the drastically inferior LG-VX8350, which is still quicker to text on than any of the ones with full keyboards.

Oh, I totally agree with you on the 8300. Something about the ways the keys were set up. It is perfect. We still have them at our store! Got our hands on some a month or so back somehow. Some of us that work here are buying them outright for ourselves just cuz we can get our hands on them again!
I agree with you on the T9/Word stuff also. I know a lot of people love the enV's. Maybe it's cuz I started with T9, not sure, but I'm much faster that way. And T9/Word is much better than iTap that the Motorola's use.
I have a hard time recommending a great phone these days. I also use a Blackberry Pearl, besides my 8300. Tried the 8350, and I think it feels cheap. Nothing at all compared to the 8300. The 8700 is OK, just not great b...

I agree I had the env for a few days and i think i used the inside twice. Its so annoying. I can type fast on t9 and I can type fast on a computer. But when you have to use the computer keys with your thumbs it doesn't work well. Even though you think you know where all of the keys are, you really don't when you use your thumb.

Might I suggest
LG 8300
LG 8600- I have this one and love it. BIg keys but not too big, can read texts on front!
LG- 8700- but this one is kinda klunky i think

Weird No one mentioned the Samsung U740 Alias... I think it makes a good texting phone. not for me i have the 8550 chocolate and use t9/Word. the buttons are small so a man with larger fingers wouldn't like it but a child, or woman with samller fingers really tend to like it. the phone is very compact. and actually cheaper than the Env right now. however the Env does have a better camera. So, keep it in mind if you decide to go Full QWERTY Keyboard.
