New Story

This guy says his battery isn't working. Look at the acct. and he got the cheapo motorola phone. You know, the one that people get because it is free. He's only had it for 19 (NINETEEN) freaking months. Explain that batteries do not last until infinity. Shocker, I know. Explain that next month he'll be able to get a new phone PLUS an extra $50 off. Says he will cancel after another 5 months because VZW won't replace his MOTOROLA battery for free now.

I asked him if he was having problem with his service. Did calls drop? No. Did he get his messages? Yes. But you want to cancel VZW because Motorola made a crappy phone? You're an idiot.

If you TV dies do you cancel your cable? No? Hmmmm.

I still am not sure why customers think they c...

Your story sounded almost identical to one that I heard when I did an in-shop visit the other day. I saw the nineteen part and honestly thought you were there and then I saw that yours was months.

There was a customer that came into the store complaining about the battery not holding a charge... they had the phone for 19 minutes. Apparently one of the sales reps:

A) Forgot to mention that no phone ships with full battery.

B) Never powered off the phone the last time they showed it to a customer.

Either way it was the funniest thing I've seen, although I really can't tell the customer they're incredibly stupid. It was a Motorola W385 that they had purchased earlier in the day and it dropped from 3 bars to 2 in those 19 minutes....

Sad to know that idiot people out there forget that VZ provides the excellent coverage.. and it is up to the manufactures of the phones to provide the same quality even with their "cheap" phones.

I don't know why you think this customer is an idiot. Sounds like this guy isn't very educated about technology...

What is this? Not everyone has couple of hundred bucks sitting around to buy a fancy phone, whose long list of features they won't ever use. If there is a option of getting a phone for free why wouldn't you? Heck the first phone I got from Verizon was free, never gave me a problem, the build quality was worst than average, but its not like it wasn't able to perform the b...

"especially Verizon" 🤣 yes, we spend years on each phone. That would be USCC, who released their razr 15 months later than most other kids on the block, b/c they tested the heck outa it. As a company, we do back up other manufacturer's products, to a degree. 19 months after initial sale, would you take an AT&T branded land-line phone with a "defective" battery back and demand they replace it for free? His point was what most in-store reps agree with: the entitlement mentality in this country needs to go, one way or another. Until we start actually pricing phones what they're worth, and not requiring contracts, that won't happen, and we'll continue to get pissed on.

OR he could get a new battery on EBAY for $6 including shippin...

Yes, people in America have developed an "entitledment mentality"...however, I still feel that we can empathize with customers a little better. This would definitely boost sales too. If we just push people away, what is their incentive to buy from us verses just going online. If we don't dazzle them (and this doesn't mean just giving them what they want...this can only lead to more frustration when they don't get policy bent in the future), but use "I UNDERSTAND". "I UNDERSTAND how it can be frustrating to still be under contract and have a battery that quit holding a charge." Then bring up the good stuff like you did... "Other then this battery issue, how is everything else with your service?" "Ok, so what you are telling me is you ar...

The TV analogy doesn't work here. However, batteries have a finite life cycle. Just like brakes on a car are not covered under the full manufacture warranty. Why? Because brake shoes wear out. Same thing with a battery. It will wear out. So it is not covered under the manufacture warranty. Just like brakes the warranty here is limited...prorated...whatever you want to call it.

The reason that people do this will the cell phone industry is simple. We, more then likely, sold them that phone. Not Motorola. Yes, Motorola made the phone. Yes, they can go to Motorola. However, it has always been a long standing tradition that VZW takes care of the customer at the point of sale. Oh, and we sold them that phone (more then likely) w...

where did I say it would take him months to upgrade? Customers like this can all go to sprint, they will see how good they had it and be back in less than two years.

Wow, sherlock, you're a genius. We sold them that phone? At an extremely discounted price? No kidding? Guess what, that doesn't mean we're responsible for it's quality.

If the alternator goes out in their car do they call up GM or Toyota and bitch? No they take the freaking thing to a mechanic who replaces it. Same way with a tv.

Sorry your battery didn't work, you can cancel with us that is fine. And then when your battery on your next phone doesn't work for the full two years cancel with them. After you've done that 5 times figure out who the problem is with. Is it...
