I'm pretty new so I don't want to get all technical since I probably won't understand, but- is Verizon doing the right thing by switching to LTE instead of to Wimax? I only ask because I read on engadget that Time Warner, Comcast, Sprint, and maybe even Google and Intel are banding together to establish a Wimax network. Verizon and AT&T are both going to LTE. I just wanted to know if LTE is better, faster, etc than Wimax.

Right now you have a technology war on your hands, noone knows for certain which one is going to be better/ faster. In my opinion LTE seems to be the most logical step, but time will tell.

Google wimax vs LTE there is a lot of good reading on the subject, form your own thoughts!

But in my WiMax trials at Clearwire the WiMax towers (which are really like advanced WiFi considered 802.16e) they topped out at 10-11 Mbps (Megabits per second) which is faster or as fast as the current LTE trials.

WiMax because it is similar to WiFi is a shared medium, think of it like DSL or a loaf of bread, the closest person to the tower gets the first and best slice and the farther you are the less you get. Most cell sites and WiMax sites have 4 repeaters. In my experience with Clearwire WiMax if each Tower with 4 repeaters supported 750 people then they were getting around 2Mbps download speeds with 700kbps upload speeds if the tower had in excess...

WOW. thanks for the detailed explanation. Very informative.

I guess Verizon made the best decision upgrading to LTE because I read somewhere that 80% of the global market is changing to LTE.

I guess we'll have to just wait and see lol
