hi
I know that the new XV6900 would have GPS on it. What does this exactly mean. does it mean that we would be able to use the touch as we use a Garmin gps device.

would be get voice activated turn by turn directions?

would we have to take the verizon vz navigator package for this.

any info for the above questions is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Switch to ATT, buy a Nokia N95, load GArmin XT and you will have a network free stand alone GPS with voice, traffic, detourss, POI, Maps, and everything a Nuvo virtually has with no additional charges.

If you want tower assisted GPS and want to pay for a NAV plan without typical GPS features yet AND pay an additional monthly charge....

cuz that really answered his question. that is the one thing i hate about this forum. someone asks a carrier specific question (in that carriers forum nonetheless) and someone always tells them what the competition has. if he wanted to know what he could do on att, then he would have asked that.

to answer the OP's question: i'm not completely sure since the 6900 isnt out yet, but i would assume that you would need to download vznav (which will give you voice turn by turns) and i would also assume that you wont get regular gps features since vzw has a tendency to "dumb-down" all their phones. (and yes i work for vzw and realize this and hate the fact)

Once it is launched for the Touch, it will have VZ Navigator (supposedly Version 4). This will give you audible turn-by-turn directions, 3D mapping, local search, movie finder, real-time traffic avoidance and weather. It will be $9.99/month for unlimited use. At this point, this is the only GPS program that will be available (once available (not at launch right now)). Just remember, once Open Access rolls around, there will be more options.
