Left Verizon on Friday

I have been thinking about leaving VZW for about a month because of the bad phone selection and expensive data plans. I have been really happy with the service but I use my phone mostly for data.

So I decide to stay with Verizon and go down to the local corp store to buy a smartphone. The sales person stated that I could not get the NE2 until March. Not wanting to sign another 2 year contract I didn't care about the $100 and didn't feel this was a issue. Then she stated that I should wait until Sunday to upgrade my plan since that is the day that my contract is up and the plan would be prorated for two days. I really don't think that prorating for two days would be that expensive. Now we get this behind us and I pick out my phone. ...

Interesting. I too am becoming leary of VZW's expensive data plans...but as far as coverage goes...since there was no real footprint of Cingular here in Hawaii before they bought out ATT, the coverage is the exact same as before under ATT...(terrible)...so for now, it's VZW.

i just had a customer in my store yesterday who just came back from HI 2 weeks ago, and said their GSM phone worked excellent there. i'm sure they were in a vacation area, which would be full coverage, so i guess it depends where you are. on the big island, coverage looks very good, as do most of the islands.

Hmm...it may be better now...but when I used ATT phones back in 2003...the coverage was very spotty. But I'll maybe look into later...thanks for the info.

Well, I was chatting with a friend of mine in Upstate New York on Sunday. She dropped her Verizon pre-pay service a month or so ago because of the changes Verizon made. She got a postpaid plan from Cingular.

I asked her how she like the Cingular service. "It's OK," she responded (not exactly a ringing endorsement). "But I do drop a lot of calls, something I never experienced with Verizon."

I know she is now having second thoughts, but she is locked in for two years.

Cingular has a 30-day no regrets policy. She might need it.

I sell Cingular, but I've gotta be fair. Our data service which you've signed up on is only for wap browsing, and for use as a modem one would have to sign up for our isp plans, which run pretty high. There are also a lot of Cingular stores which don't carry the upper end phones. I work in one of them, and I can usually get the phone for them the next day from a transfer, but leaving expensive phones in the inventory for a long time is bad for depreciation.

I hope you have a wonderful experience with Cingular, but I also hope you don't hold this one experience against Verizon. We all have our good moments, and our bad.
