Stop hating on VZW for crippling phones.

I am a former VZW customer, and by no means a fanboy of VZW, but it's not right to single them out for crippling phones. Sprint and at&t (who I have now) are just as guilty as crippling phones. For that matter, is there any american cell phone company that doesn't cripple phones?

From a business standpoint, i don't blame Verizon for crippling their phones. I would do the same thing. Make you buy any app or ringtone only from my company so my company makes money. As a Verizon customer, i hate it with all my heart. 👿

yeah people on this site and others seem to forget that cell phone companies are in business to make money. NOT to provide with the ability to get free MP3 ringtones or games.

And the cool thing about verizon is that they are good about investing money back into their network, which benefits everyone.

Ask sprint customers what happens when you give away the farm....

removing features that came with the phone originally, but verizon will either disable them or remove them all together. Other companies do this as well.

They all cripple them, but Verizon goes too far at crippling their phones. While it might not matter to me as much, but to others, it's a big deal. Verizon has their own UI on all of their phones, and it's supposed to make switching between phones easier. But the Verizon UI has made Motorola phones run much slower than with the Motorola UI on them. But also, for those who want full bluetooth, that ...

Hate to burst your bubble, but ALL carriers have "their own UI" in the phones. If they didn't then AT&T phones wouldn't have a menu item called "CV". LG developed the UI and Verizon said "ooo pretty...and red"...and it became a brief standard. For those who like to complain and not pay attention...most new phones have NEW UI's that are quite different. The DARE has a totally new UI, though you wouldn't know that because you've never played with one, but it is different. As for bluetooth...that's already been altered as they have started to allow file transfers by Bluetooth. Like Chris said...Cellular companies are in business to make money...just like any other corporation. The goal of any company is to make money, plain and simple. ...

The thing about Motorola being slow because of VZW's UI ... that's Motorola's damn fault and that's why they are going down in flames. From what I've hear, they have been using the same internal OS (dating back to the Motorola v60 series) to run the VZW UI interface.

they need to upgrade their phone processors or that OS or something. get with the times!

what more do you need blue tooth for? I have mono and stero blue tooth, I can send pictures and videos to my lap top via blue tooth. The only thing I know of that we are missing is on some gsm sony ericsson phones you can use the blue tooth to control someones pointer on there lap top via BT, what else is there. And this is on my old MAXX

i work for VZW and use to have them as a carrier and i think its a load of crap for any company to do it. Why should the phone manufacterers put R&D, time and money into these features if the cell companies are just going to remove or disable it just cuz they cant charge the cust to use it?
i understand that they want to make money off ringtones, games etc. great, the average cust will buy them off the phone, but if you are smart enough to make your own, you should be able to use them. as for the BT on VZW, omg.... i've lost sooo many sales b/c of vzw's crippled BT. stop nickel and diming the cust. these compaines make millions if not billions a year (cept maybe sprint 🙂 ).

well, that's why the manufacturer's enter into an agreement with VZW before they develop phones. That way, everything is put in front of the manufacturer's face so they know all of the costs associated with it before development.

Besides, the majority of the revenue comes from completely open GSM phones. the CDMA market is just a little extra to their portfolio.
