I need help finding phone that actually works
Long story short, the reception sucks. I have dropped at least 5 calls a day since I had it. I use it for business (outside sales) and travel across the midwest. My E 815 only dropped a call every once and a while. This phone is terrible, and I plan on returning it.

The problem is that all VZW handsets come with internal antennas. Your best bet will be to pick up an ENV before they're all sold out and env2 is all there is. The big shell of the phone supports a larger antenna then a flip phone will. You won't be happy with any internal antenna phones in marginal areas or Alltel roaming markets.
The e815 is one of the best reception phones Verizon ever had. The only comparable device was the Audiovox 9900, which was built about the same way, like a tank. My father-in-law is still using the Audiovox 9900 I bought in fall 2004.

Get the LG 8350 it has great reception and a loud ear piece volume..you'll be happy.
I would agree, the style will not turn heads, but my LG 8350 gets great reception. I work at the U.S.- Canada border and I pick up one bar of VZW service. I am able to make and receive calls, and send text. My prior phone, the LG 8300 with the external antenna would have zero bars or roam off a Canada tower during my work shift.
