It has to be attached to a line of credit. Generally, if you didn't apply for it, it's not a credit card.

All banks these days issue Check Cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo and can be used as a credit card.The logo doesn't make it a credit card that is attached to a line of credit.
I've never heard of a cellular carrier not accepting Check Cards as a method of payment.

that's not true. i have a bank of america debit card with the visa logo on it and bank of america handles none of my credit cards and i used it on the website when i ordered 2 phones at different times. some banks do offer debit cards without the visa/mastercar...
