Curve Text Input

Excuse me if I'm being ignorant, I'm a first time BlackBerry user.

All of my phones had some sort of auto complete for SMS input (or general input), I can't seem to get my new Curve to autocomplete. I'm stuck typing the full word every time.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I dont know if it has an autocomplete. Why would you want it? you should be faster typing with a qwerty anyway.

I don't know, I'm really good with T9 word!!! Hopefully my thumbs will get the hang of the qwerty!

its no comparisson, qwerty is faster.

plus its easier to use shorthand with qwerty because the phone isn't trying to make a word out of "btw" or "lol" 😁

Many people who use a blackberry device are business users and do not use texting abbreviations like BRB or LOL or ROFLMFAO in emails to clients.

The blackberry unfortunately doesn't have a text completion ability on any of the current models. That function is on advanced T9, Windows Mobile and the iPhone. However, the blackberry does have some nice messaging shortcuts such as:

Hold down the letter key to capitalize a letter in a word.

Auto places a period after a double space at the end of a sentence. (iPhone does this too)

Inserts the @ sign in an email field when spacing after the name and before the domain.

Those are only a few of them that I remember off the top of my head. However, they are very useful and finally did...

Well,

im 26 and I work in sales and most of my coworkers are 35 or older. you would be surprised how much they text and use abbreviations. But I know in general they use them a lot less.

I have used t9 and I have typed on the pearl. I guess I just feel that after you get used to most qwerty key pads, that input method is the fastest for most people.

QWERTY is fast, and so is T9...combine them both and it's even faster. I use my BB for work, in my line of business there are many words that are multiple syllables and can not be abbreviated.

I switched from the Treo to the BB, the Treo had both and it was much faster. Maybe I will just get used to it, to soon to tell. But it is a major disappointed.

On the other hand the email function seems to work much smoother and is much more intuitive. It's also lighter, smaller and hopefully more durable.

If anyone finds a fix please let me know!

Thanks

Besides the list of short cuts listed earlier in the thread, you may have noticed that your 'berry auto completes contractions when you space after them. For example type "theyre(space)" and you get "they're". This gets even more advanced, type "mns(space)" you get "minutes". Type "mypin(space)" you get "pin☹️your pin number)".

This is called auto text and it is an editable data base. So, if there are words, or even enitre phrases, you type often you can program it in. For example I saved "asd" as I'm driving and will reply ASAP. It works in sms, email, and blackberry messenger fields.

Go to options, look for auto text and abbreviate away.

only phones with full qwertys only will not generally auto complete words.

I think the Moto Q auto completes as well, and I know the Treo did.

I started to put some words into the abbreviations section, but there are simply too many to do.

Aw well, time to 'get used to it'
