Lag on a Pearl?

So i finally broke down and purchased a Pearl several months ago. I absolutely love the phone. However, this past weekend I've had nothing but problems. The phone seems to be lagging extremely badly. I can go in and type a full 160 character text message, when i get to the end it's still typing the first word. then if i wait 30 seconds it'll fill in the rest of the message. when i receive a call I'll hit the answer button, it'll take 30 seconds for it to connect and the screen to switch to show me i'm connected. I've never had a problem with the memory leaking and i frequently run the memory cleaner. I'm at my breaking point with this. any ideas what's going on or what i can do to fix it. i may give up and go back to a standard phone.

I would take the phone to a verizon corporate store that has a service department. They will take a look at it and issue you a replacement phone as long as there is no water damage on the device.

The pearl has a memory dump when you get to many msgs and calls in your logs. Just make sure you delete msgs and calls once in a while and turn the phone off every once in a while too. that will help it to not lag as much. And take the battery out prolly once a week would help as well. Just like a computer things need to be restarted.

I second the recommendation that you pull the battery. I do it every few days and put it right back in.
Clears things out.

If that does not fix it, then take it back to a store for a replacement.
The phone should not act that way.

There is a known issue with the Blackberry Pearl and memory leaks. When the memory starts to get full it will auto delete call logs and it will cause the phone to lag like you describe.

Its reccomended that you have a memory card and store everything you can on it to save phone memory. its also reccomended that you erase unneeded messages and call logs every so often to help keep space clear.

Doing a soft reset every so often will fix alot of issues also.

If you continue to experience issues with it take it to a store and get it replaced. if you have problems with the replacement pearl see if you can get a curve thru the multi exchange policy

The “known issue” with the Pearl is not a fault of the phone, it is the way it is made. The phone only has 64mb of internal memory. Since this is the first Blackberry that was aimed at the consumer sect, it is the one where the issue sticks out the most. You must remember that previous models have not had the ability to take pictures, store music and videos and the memory issue was not really an issue. As people text, email, store pix and music on their devices, it all chips away at that measly 64mb or memory. The phone requires a certain amount of memory to do what it is supposed to do. Once it reaches that threshold it is programmed to delete call history and text messages.

So far this has not really come up on the VZW Cur...

i'm aware of the memory leak issue, however that's not the problem i'm experieincing. i have a 2 gig card in and when i look at my available memory it's an equal amount to that of which is used. I'm simply experiencing severe lag (think moto product). it happens all of the time. i'll receive an incoming call, i'll hit the answer button and i can start counting 1, 2, 3, ... 29, 30...41, 42 and then it connects. also, i'll take a call, it'll connect properly, i'll hang up, wait a second and hit the send button to view my recent calls but the phone will lock up tight. i'll have to pull the battery. i'm seriously debating dropping the BB all together and going with an enV2 or voyager with vcast and mobile email for my pop3's and yahoo mai...

you might want to hump it but to say it's damn near the best phone ever made is going to far. the reception sucked for me, and it was far from perfect.

wirelesshound our blackberry rep came in and told us to try something in our store with people who have the same issue. i dont know if it works on verizons blackberrys but it does on tmobile and att's...

try holding alt and pushing lglg and a event log will pop up...you will wont to erase everything in the log because that eats up the ram and slows down the blackberry. do that like twice a week.
