Switching to Verizon.. Need phone advice

Hey all!

So I'm switching to Verizon from Sprint in the next month, and I'm researching phones. I've checked out what people have said on this site, but I have a few questions.

First, I've narrowed it down to either the LG Venus or Motorola MotoRizr. I have a couple of questions though:

  • Which would you choose and why?

  • The MotoRizr has versions Z6tv and Z6c? Is one better than the other? One says it has mobile email and the other doesn't? I'm pretty sure I tried the Z6tv at the store and it did have email. Is that just a mistake?

Basically, I use my phone for calls, TXTing, and mobile web, so I appreciate any advice. I know I can try one for 30 days and then try the other too which I may do....

I actually don't like the style of the enV2. It's too bulky. I was excited when I first heard about it, but then got my hands on it and was quite disappointed. heh.

Well, the 2 handsets you spoke about are not, IMHO, that great.

The LG product line is very solid, and my initial reaction to the env2 was "blah", but after actually using it, I like it more and more.

You asked for advice, I gave it.

Good luck.

I would go more with the Venus than the Rizr...but that's only if you can't wait for say....2 weeks. The Decoy will launch mid-month and it'd be a good substitute for the Venus. The Rizr's are the same as each except: One's global without TV and one's domestic with TV (yay?). Motorola has it's issues on Verizon and is not the best of phones. I do agree with llama that the env2 would be good if you like texting, but if you've already played with it and disliked it, then don't buy it.

Wow.. just Googled the Decoy and found the Dare. That looks like a sweet phone. My contract with Sprint ends July 8th and they say this will launch July 2nd?! If that works out, then I think I'm sold (should it get good reviews)

Well...I was guessing that your port was a bit earlier. Yes, the Dare is slated for July 4th actually and having already used it....WELL worth the wait. The touchscreen is quite nice, the UI is quite nice...and the feel of the phone is nice (not to mention the 3.2MP camera.

You've used it? How'd u pull that off? Any idea of the pricing of the Decoy and the Dare?

Thanks dude!

I'm just that good. Decoy has been reported at $179.99 after rebate. Dare is to be determined...but I would guess no less than $200. HOWEVER, the iPhone 3G is slated for July as well and we all know that Verizon will price the Dare competitively to minimize the losses.

hmm.. that may be a deal breaker. I've never spent that much on a phone before.

(btw, if it'd be easier to chat than post back and forth, i use Yahoo: airic82)

((I know there are gonna be responses to this from trolls everywhere))...When you come to the best...you pay for the best 😎 Again, the Dare has not been officially priced at this time and remains to be seen. I can tell you that it is worth whatever price they put it at and I will own one as soon as physically possible.

I would have to say that the Motorola RIZR that's offered for VZW is actually a top notch phone. It has superb reception and the battery life is superior.

Not all Moto batteries die after 13 months, I have a Moto Razr that is going on 2 yrs old and still going strong.
I'm in the same boat, I like the Venus and the Motorizr, what to do????????

I can't attest to the RIZR but it seems like an okay phone.. although i'm sure it has MOTO's slow UI.

The Venus however... IMO is a pile. I've seen lots of problems with the keys flaking off on the phone as well as the slide form breaking. Not to mention several software issues. I'm not a fan of the phone at all.

that's just my two cents.

I'd regret the AT&T network and their crappy data capabilities. Unfortunately, Apple signed an exclusive contract with them, or I would purchase an iPhone.

The updated I phone is a piece of junk. Yes it has a great browser, visual voice mail, and an Ipod, but lets look at the minuses. No media card slot. No user removable battery. Because Apple wants to be the only ones to be able to make money for a new battery. They don't want third party vendors to make knock offs because they would lose money. No MMS, no video capture, and no flash and this is supposed to be a multimedia phone. No voice activated dialing and no cut and paste. And you have to use it on the AT&T network. Which means poor call quality, dropped calls, and a small footprint for 3G since they are behind the times. And when you get millions of people using their network with I phones what do you think will happen to download speed...
