Last year I read an article that Verizon was going to allow any phone from any carrier to be with the verizon service. Does anyone have any more information on this, such as when/if this is going to happen?? I have been debating if I am going to stay with verizon(my plan is up in july) or switch to ATT for the Iphone, therefore this statement is quite significant. If anyone has any information on this please post.

Thanks

It will never happen. GSM phones will not work on verizon network. The whole thing is a joke

Open network applies to CDMA handsets...GSM will not work on CDMA.

And the whole thing is not a joke.

Dont mind BB2709, his mom hasn't let him outta the basement in a few days.

The Verizon open network will only work with CDMA devices that are compatible on the verizon network. Namely that would be sprint, alltel, and a few other regional carriers. GSM phones will not work on the verizon network, so if you want the iphone you will have to port your number.

If I were you I would wait for the announcement of the BB thunder, which might get released by the end of 2008. That should be an amazing phone and its a verizon exclusive. The iphone is cool, but when all is said and done, I don't think it functions as a phone very well. Just my two cents.

Good Luck!

Chris

You should be able to do it with a usb card reader and a micro sd card.

I wouldn't say that it sucks, but it does have its limitations. I just don't care for the way they format their music in that stupid mp4 category. Its pretty annoying.

Thats one of the big reasons I would buy the Iphone. For me it would be nice to have it all in one.

thats fine. Go buy the iphone then. But many people don't want both in one. I just depends on how you use your phone. There is no definitive answers

Well ... iTunes uses so much of your computer's memory ... plus that stupid m4a format. I have my sonique mp3 player back in 2000 and it works just fine and doesn't consume that much memory. and last time i checked, every device uses .mp3 except for apple products.

god ... who is BB2709 kidding? Bashing VZW on limitations but supporting Apple? Apple is the king on putting restrictions on their devices! that was one of the reason why they were going down the drain before they got lucky with the iPods.

I agree there are thousands with Apple propeitary "iTunes" who are stuck with Apple as they will not playback on anything else.

Apple. like VErizon is an arrogant company both of whom belive their customers are stupid dolts who don't want to read a book. They prey on the ignorance if only to lock them up into a system of "easy".

The tecnically savvy need not apply to their hand holding ways.

yeah thats why all pixar movies and anything with video editing is done on a mac. I'm sure it's "easy" to create Shrek on a computer.

Just because apple and verizon make things easier doesnt make them wrong. I love my macbook pro and I would never trade it in for a PC. It's easy to use and does everything I need it to do.

Stop your ignorant rants and please, for the love of god, stop posting here!

Are you serious. Veriaon is kickin and a screamin to "open source" . Can't wait to see what they consider "Open" LOL.

I would not switch to ATT for the iPhone though. The Nokia N95 yeah..But not the iPhone.

this is a baby step, the real interesting stuff will come years down the road when LTE is out and the big carriers are using technology that is interchangeable. As far as using it now you have to stick with cdma, So if you want say a Helio Ocean or perhaps a LG glimmer you have hope, if you want the iphone you are boned

What other phones from other CDMA carriers can you use right now on Verizon and is that applicable if you are already a Verizon customer???? Thank you.

From my understanding, any Sprint phone can work. I think you just need to talk to the right person to activate it for you. There are some people on this forum that have knowledge in regards to that.
