Ok guys all this crap and law suit and Verizon sucks for disabling the Bluetooth on the 710 is silly. Think about it from a business stand point, all these carriers are in this business to make money, thats why everyone works for a living, to make money, if everyone could share their downloaded ringers and games with everyone else profits would drop like a rock. Why would a company shoot themselves in the foot and give everyone a reason to not pay for a connection kit or ringers or games or picture messaging?

They could have advertised the bluetooth features that were available with this phone. The web site says you can connect with your PC and all you can do is hold a conversation over the PC's speakers. That is false advertisement and the reason for the suit. Most people want to be able to sync their phones with their PC's without cables because USB ports or limited and the USB hubs are a pain. Bluetooth will be the technology that allows us to shop from stores and vending machines using our cell phones instead of credit or debit cards. We want our bluetooth phones and the carriers can check our phones for pirated material because we connect to their networks every time we make a call. I will agree. VZW's marketting department really screwed the pooch on this one. They advertised the phone BADLY. IT seems to me that the marketting dept didn't have enough information to make the proper campaign for this phone.
One thing that has been addressed is the OBEX profile being disabled. If I remember right OBEX stands for OBject Embedded file Xchange. Forgive me please if I am wrong but it has been a few years since I was in college for this. OBEX is a unlimited file transfer protocol. With a full OBEX profile enabled, you would be able to share everything on a bluetooth enabled device.
Think about it. Download whatever you want to your phone, transfer it via Bluetooth OBEX. Thats stealing, especially in the case of ringtones...

The Bluetooth does connect to a PC and it's not just for conversations over the computers speakers.

Your absolutely right about business and money. The challenge is to make profit without pissing people off or seeming to exploit technology solely for the purpose of making a profit. Vzw has been caught looking greedy and manipulative and that is why it deserves to get its hand spanked. I have no problem with paying for something of value, but I do mind when that value is stripmined purely and aggressively for profit. You don't devalue a product in order to increase profit, you add value.
