THE NEW CINGULAR!

ATTCINGULAR

Feb 3, 2005, 1:43 AM
Lets see.....

How does a company become the largest and the best???

1. Lowering churn (notice how the new cingular manages to lower total churn rates for both cingular and former att wireless down to 2.6% (2.4% not including indirect dealers) Now we all know how bad att wireless's churn rate was. This was almost a miracle!.

2. Adding 1.8 millon net subscribers...(kicking Verizon's a**)

3. Best phones in the industry...(come on Verizon get up to date, and quit disableing your blue tooth!

Its time that Verizon now understands that there is no more monoply! Its time for a change, and fierce competition. Verizon underestimated the power of cingular and attws joining forces........wait and see. THIS IS THE END OF THE VERIZON L...

Cingular only added 60,000 more new lines than Verizon and Verizon churn is still almost twice as low. Hmmm might need to raise the bar a little higher over at Cingular in case Verizon stopps to Cingular;s level and buys a company with 8-20 million subs.

How original.

Couldn't come up with anything better than that?
Wow... so verizon will get on it's knees when customers threaten to cancel.

One question, Mortgage man.
Why would a mortgage guy bother spending his day on a wireless phone forum with a keen interest in convincing everyone that "Verizon rules and Cingular sucks"?
Answer: He wouldn't.
Are you that ashamed to say that you work for Verizon?

Alright, I hate stooping to people's levels, but it's hard to resist. I will state some facts.

FACT: Churn is a measure of the amount of customers who leave a particular service provider, either by disconnecting or porting out.

Cigular's churn rate was 2.6%, really? okay...
FACT: VzWs churn rate for 4q04 was 1.43% and 1.5% for all of 2004.
A 2.6% churn rate for Cingy was a record low, and impressive?!? only to them...

FACT: Cingular had more net adds in 4q04 - approximately 64,000 more customers (1,757,000 vs. 1,693,000).
Bravo to Cingular, my hats off to ya, but both numbers ar...

Serious question. VZW churn includes (or it did include) prepay churn. Does Cingular also include prepay churn? Can anyone verify this? If VZW is including prepay churn and Cingular is not... Then VZW's turnover is MUCH MUCH lower than stated on post paid.

I dunno Phoenix... if I'm eating anything its more like baby crow. Cingy did great with adds for *one* quarter (which I think reflects great marketing on their part- loved the TV commericals), but churn is still high, they lost a lot of money in the quarter, and I haven't yet heard of them making major and sustained strides in improving CS. Let's face it, if the shoe was on the other foot, you'd probably be the first to say, "Let's see what Verizon does *next* quarter."

Also... if I'm a 'Verizon fanboy', then why do I disagree with them so consistently on the issue of crippling data transfer? Food for thought, as your label simply does not stick. 😉

"In addition, starting in the first quarter of 2005, Cingular will adopt a

1. Cingular's churn is indeed high compared to Verizon's and Nextel's... about 70% higher in fact (2.4% vs 1.43%). That's just simple math. It might be a pretty good rate for Cingy, but if VZW's churn was that high next quarter some VZW execs would probably be leaping out of some 10th floor windows.

2. Sigh. I'm a VZW fanboy only in the eyes of a particular self-admitted Cingy fanboy, i.e. you. I take no responsbility for your faulty frame of reference. And equating my stance on Bluetooth/data transfer (a very real disagreement I have with VZW) with how your bill is paid is a silly comparison by any measure.

There is no disagreement in the fact that Verizon's churn is lowER. This time 18 months ago Verizon's "low" churn was around the same as Cingular's current churn. That number was low then and it's low now that Cingular has one that low. The definition of "low" hasn't changed, buddy. Sorry you are having a hard time with the concept.

I have found this sarcasm and rudeness to be typical of Cingular people who post on the Verizon forum.
This is the reputation of Cingular.
Actually the rules of debate exclude a person who indulges in sarcasm and personal attacks, so mere debate cannot be the excuse for the bad manners. Personal attacks and sarcasm show either insecurity in one's own position or an inability to articulate one's position.

Sigh. 2.4 is a lot higher than 1.43. If Verizon's and Nextel's churn is low, sorry, Cingy's just isn't... that's the nature of competitive capitalism, you measure your performance against those of your competition. What part of this or basic math is difficult? Stop splitting hairs, no one's buying it. Instead, accept the fact that Cingy has some work to do here...

😕 😕 😕
Now im new to this... but the math... verizon would have to had done exactly that to get the amount of subs they have @ 42 million...

How many did they have when they began? Thats alot of subs mate... and they didn't come on over nite.

Curious... I keep on reading about pro-forma... pro-forma is not an actual number but a type of estimate... how many subs did Cingy actually add cuz I'm not believin the hype because they are addin the pro-forma figures to the 46-47 mil total and not factoring churn or anything like...

Just a thinking man's perspective ...

Good point.
Here in the Northwest Cingular (formerly ATTWS) has less coverage than anyone else but T-Mobile.
Their dropped call rate is the highest in the market. The entire central and Eastern sections of Oregon and a huge chunk of Idaho have no GSM coverage whatsoever.
Now I am sure that it will get fixed but that is today's reality.

After looking at both coverage maps, it looks like Cingular and Verizon have the same amount of coverage. There are some small parts where Cingular has coverage and Verizon doesn't, but there are also areas where Verizon has coverage and Cingular does not. All in all its about the same amount of coverage.

I am confident as in both companies, as they have both came a long way and made important steps in the wireless industry. Verizon just launched their EV-DO high-speed network, that's great for their customer base. Cingular is working on launching a UMTS/W-CDMA high-speed network late this year, which their customers are probably looking forward to.

I think you've gone with a winning wireless carrier either way you go. Both carriers have great phones, a strong customer base, and what it takes to be very strong competitors in the future.
