Is Opera going to be there, any restrictions on what we see? Is the GPS and WiFi going to be tuned for some kind of mandatory Verizon payday?

No...they dont really mess with their smart phones. Im sure they will lock down gps, but im not sure about wifi. Whatever they did to the original touch is prolly what they will do the touch diamond.

Att does the same thing with their phones, the only diff is that you can use unlocked phones and get around att policies.

The ONLY difference???....I would say thatmakes ALL the difference.

ATT wanted the N95 IF Nokia would lose the GPS chip. Nokia apparently told them where to go. Thank You Nokia...and Thank You ATT for allowing the use of non "approved" FULLY FEATURED phones on your network and allowing the use of ALL the phones features without additional cost. at&t had wi-fi removed from a few releases because of cost but they are getting more friendly with wi-fi. it doesn't make sense that any carrier would block wi-fi to force their own data usage becuase wi-fi doesn't put any strain on the network. american wireless providers(at&t and verizon included) are the second worse in the world. canada officially gets that nod.

wifi may reduce strain on the network, but there are other implications as well.

You may be able to not use a data plan, and you might also be able to use VOIP to save minutes.

They should just make data plans mandatory with all pda's and blackberries. Then open wifi up for everybody.

yep. but if they are using voip then they are still not using the network and paying a bill... american carriers need to get away from control and just provide service.
