Unlocked phones for purchase at Best Buy.

Yes, I know this is not news. And the unlocked phones are GSM. But I had to get your attention.

So, are American consumers ready to pay full retail price for a handset?

It will be interesting to see the evolution of the 700 mhz spectrum. Will consumers be willing to pay $200-$300 for a handset if it means no contract?

Funny thing is, they can do that now. You don't have to have a contract if your willing to purchase a handset at retail price.

Considering that Apple abandoned their no subsidy strategy, I think the answer is a No

Retail my ass....Best Buy THINKS they will get retail.

As long as Best buy charges $200 more for the N95 than you can get it at even Amazon I doubt they will sell many. I spoke with them about that since I went there first to buy the 8...
