Just to get this out of the way, I've read through the forum and the user reviews, and am posting this message only to get information to supplement what has already been said.
My NE2 is about up, and I'm trying to decide on a new phone. The problem is, I absolutely require analog (yes i really need it, and not just that I think I do).
I've thus far narrowed my selection down to the 6100 or the v265. The most important thing for me is reception and call quality. I plan to use it for communicating and could care less about the camera (so i don't need to hear about how crappy the v265 camera is). Also, I'm aware of the volume bug with the 6100. What I'm looking for is anyone who is familiar enough with both of these phones to be able t...

I am not familiar enough with either phone to answer your question with the detail you are requesting, however I do offer this piece of information: I have spoken with no less than 5 VZW technicians over the last 4 days (getting things straight with my EVDO V-Cast functionality on my new LG VX-8000), and they ALL have stated to me that LG makes a first class phone. Motorola has sacrificed quality recently and thus makes a second class phone. They all congratulated me on giving up my v710 for the VX8000.
Motorola has not made a great phone since the V60i. LG consistently puts out GREAT phones

If you can get your hands on the LG 4400, I would go for that. That is a basic phone with no camera, and it works GREAT. Verizon made a big mistake by not offering this phone anymore, I have one, and I also have one in storage for when this one stops working, I have over 6000 calls on mine and it works just like it did when I first got it, and battery life is awesome, with extended battery you have 4 hours of talk time or more. Goto ebay and look for this phone, I am sure there is someone out there selling a new one, and probably wont cost much more then what you would spend with signing a contract at verizon, and this way, you dont have to resign a contract, just make a phone change, and that is it. Make sure you get a Verizon phone for...

First and foremost I would like to thank you for your time in writing this post as well as writing it well.
I can say with 95% confidence that you will be happy with either the v265 or the vx6100. I work in customer service and I have not received one call in regards to a problem of either one of these phones. However, I can say, based on experience, the lg phones have proven to be reliable. The Motos have diminished in quality starting probably after the 270c. I personally would choose the vx7100, not only because of its track record but because of the ability to force into a certain mode (analog, digital, pcs).
Mobile web is a great tool for obtaining information and I would definatley recommend adding it if you think you might need ...

Thanks everyone for their input. I am going to go to the Verizon store today and take care of the upgrade. I've read a lot of posts here and at Howards Forums and thank everyone who has posted their experiences. While I'm going to look at both the 6100 and 265 at the store, right now I am leaning towards the 265.
The stories regarding the signal fluctuation on the 6100 make me kinda nervious. My T720 has made me very very warry of the RF capabilities of a phone. (I know, it seems odd to say that because of a crappy moto phone I'm going to get another moto phone, the irony is not lost on me).
The ability to force the mode on the 6100 almost was enough to push that over the top, but in the end two factors reduced its appeal. 1) although...
