What are my options?

moving on

Feb 7, 2005, 11:03 PM
Hello, I am a VZW customer, and have been with them since early 2000 in the days of Ameritech cellular. My current phone is a Samsung SCHa310 (the thing is literally falling apart, so I need a new phone), and my contract expires at the end of April.

If VZW offered a Treo 650, I would stay on with them. They don't. So, I could switch to Cingular (which seems like a good option for Chicago) or Sprint (which is sucky in Chicago). Or I could get another phone from VZW (which might be okay, as a lot of friends are on the IN-network), but I would like a comparable phone to the 650.

So, here are 2 questions:

a) Would Cingular buy out my contract if I switched?
b) Is there a cool Treo-650 like offering from VZW?

treo's 600 is available on vzw. not sure what the difference is between the 600 & 650 so i couldn't tell you if there's a "650-like" phone. audiovox's 6600 that came out a month or so ago is decent as well.

before switching to cingular, you may want to read the test a chicago news station did for the area.

Considering AT&T's network didn't do so bad, and the biggest issue between Cingular and AT&T was dropped calls, the combined network should suit him must fine.

Those tests were taken pre-merger and now that AT&T and Cingular's network are one and the same I'm sure Cingular would rank higher than either itself or AT&T did in those past tests.

If anyone reading this has used Cingular's new combined network in Chicago recently, please chime in. 🙂 Thank you.
