I'm trying to change the settings back to my old phone (how do I do it, btw?), and just about everything I try to do on verizonwireless.com comes back with "try again later." Is the site down?

Ah, found the section where I can activate phones, but now I've encountered a roadblock. I'm trying to re-activate my old LG VX8300, and it's asking for the order number and replacement code (?!).

They're not seriously expecting me to have kept the receipt from over two years ago, are they? Besides, the site should know that this ESN was previously associated with my phone number, hence, I own the phone.

I knew it wouldn't be so easy...

Check what you're doing again, it sounds like you hit the activate NEW equipment. You can select existing equipment (or device from another source) or something to that effect, and no, they don't expect you to have a receipt for 2-year old equipment. I've done it before...many times...

I appear to have solved the problem. I had forgotten to turn off Boulder before reactivating VX8300. Now it's reactivated, and I'm thrilled to have a functioning cellphone again, even if it's held together by duct tape.

Boulder on its way to the FedEx dropoff now. Good riddance, you rubberized waterproof turd.

No. I still have my 8300. I'm sending Boulder back until I decide on a replacement, getting my NE2 credit reinstated.

Sorry, but I find the old 8300 better in every way except waterproofing. I can actually understand people again, and they can understand me!

Also, I was going through the old text messages on the 8300. They delete instantly, unlike the 3- to 4-second lag on the Boulder. Other UI issues are quick on the old 8300, glitchy and gummy on Boulder. The buttons on the 8300 are easy to distinguish -- the Boulder they're crap. Even the text input -- Word, predictive -- is better than the junky, primitive T9 on Boulder.

Yeah, it's cracked all over from two years of hard use, and I've got the battery cover held on by tape. But, ...

I don't believe this "new batch" talk whatsoever. No way they would have gotten that speaker manufactured, installed and distributed this quickly after the initial release of Boulder. Verizon may be telling people this as damage control.

There is one guy on hofo saying in 120- 180 they will upgrade the speaker.

Hah. Whatever. They've pissed me off so badly with this release I'm not going back. And that guy's right -- the new speaker will probably just drain the battery more.

Keep in mind when you get that error it could mean a local site that we get information to you could be down, or we could be doing some updates! i would give it an hour or two and try back as always!

It's all loading now on VZW.com. And just to be clear, I'm returning Boulder for credit, restoring use of my old 8300 for now.

Thanks. Perhaps in 2010 when I'm up for another NE2, Verizon will have taken the endless thousands of Boulder complaints/returns to heart and made a water-resistant rugged device that actually functions as a phone.
