Home vs. Automatic and data plans
Hello!
I have an XV6800 with WM 6.1 recently installed (finally!). I am going on a trip from southern California to Ensenada, Mexico (only about 60 miles south of the border), and I want to make sure I do not roam. I went into Settings > Phone > and set it to Home rather than Automatic.
Does that setting also make the data side of the phone (EVDO or 1xRTT) a "home only" setting? I do not want huge data roaming to sneak up on me.
Out of curiosity, and with all the hoopla about AT&T having more bars in more places, I decided to look at the VZW world-wide coverage. I was surprised how many countries are using CDMA. Listening to the AT&T ads, you'd think the USA was the only place that CDMA works.
Thank you!

Do you want to be able to make and receive calls while over there?

Only in case of emergency. I will use WiFi to grab email while away.
I mainly need to make sure the data side does not roam after I have the phone set to Home.

If you set the phone as home only you will not be able to make or receive calls while roaming. there is a national access block available that you can put on there before you leave to Mexico and remove it when you come back to the states; however I'm not sure if that will impact the wifi connection. Maybe someone else who is reading this can possibly answer that question.

I will call VZW tomorrow to ask about the block.
Thank you!

You are welcome. Also the national access block does block pictures and videos but you won't be able to use it when you are roaming anyways. Let me know if you need anything else
