yep its true supposedly when u change ur plan in the next couple of months with vzw, instead of having prorated charges and minutes, only ur charges will be prorated not your minutes. so if u r over ur minute allowance late in your bill cycle, u can upgrade your plan and not have to pay huge overages. yayyyyyyyyyyy....lol 😁

this is true. for us, it will save a lot of billing escalations.

for customers, it will obviously save them a lot of money.

Exactly... stay on A.C. 300 minute plan until 2 days before the end of your bill, find out how many minutes you used and then change plans to something that'll get you enough. Then the next billing cycle change back to A.C. 300 again. Or am I missing something in that loophole?

nope u got it, u would be prorated as far as monthly charges go but not minutes. it used to be that people could change calling plans whenever during a b/c and just pay the difference between the 2 plans on the next bill and they would get the new plans minutes for the whole month, but that changed when a new billing system was implemented. the details have not been ironed out i hear, but its probably in answer to what sprint is doing

i think its more about customer satisfaction and call in rate reduction as this will hopefully eliminate a lot of billing error calls from customers who r not smart enough to understand prorations

Not gonna happen.

This would let a customer be on a 400 min plan for a month, change to a 3000 min plan on the last day, pay for 29 days at the 400 min rate, pay for *one* day at the 3000 min rate, and get 3000 mins for the whole month.

That would never happen.

At TMobile we already handle rate plan changes this way, and it works just fine. We advise customers that rate plan changes take effect at the first day of the billing cycle, but we can change in the middle as a courtesy, especially if the customer has current overage. If it looks like a customer is just changing rate plans around to get the minutes reset, we notate the account that there will be no more mid-cycle changes and that settles that! It works great, and it's a very nice surprise to the average customer who is changing in mid cycle due to overage when they find out they have all those minutes to use until the bill cycle closes.

so you give them all the mins from the new plan, but dont charge them for the new plan?

Ah, but too bad that those who really wanna screw the system can simply go ONLINE and change their rate plan through My Account. Really now, I would NOT mind it at all if I were paying for 29 days of a $40 plan and 1 day of a $XX plan and get the minutes of the higher plan!

I'd say in that situation the new plan won't take affect until your next billing cycle. You'd have to speak with a rep to get those minutes for your current month.

i think we're missing a major point in here somewhere. vzw is hardly going to allow you to change to a 2000 minute plan on the last day of your b/c but only have to pay for a 400 minute plan.

I wouldnt think so anyway, unless there is some kind of committment to the higher plan for a certain amount of time.

its very much true and it launches 2nd quarter, it used to be u could switch plans at the end of ur b/c so u dont pay the huge overage charges of course they would bill u the difference between the old plan and the new plan but u would get the minutes backdated to the beginning of the b/c as if u had the extra minutes all along. now apparently, they r doing the same thing except just prorated the charges which imo is stupid they should just charge people for the difference. it has been confirmed just gotta get reps trained...

I'd love to see Verizon start this again. A few years ago, when VZW allowed this, I took advantage of switching plans a couple of times if I was over my monthly plan, but my friend did this almost every month. I accused her of single-handedly causing VZW to stop letting customers switch. Although you were billed the difference in the two plans, it was definitely worth it if you were significantly over your minutes--much cheaper than paying the per minute charge for the overage. I've become disgusted with Sprint, which I currently use, and was considering switching back to VZW. Glad I ran across this board!

I think that there might be some confusion here. the way i understood this to be, it's new customer prorates that are going away. previously a new customer would start their plans and not have the prorated mins until their next bill cycle explained properly or they didn't understand. vzw is now going to just give them ALL the minutes until their next bill cycle, regardless of how many days are left. regular mid-cycle prorates will still exist, i believe.

there is no confusion, price plan changes will not involve prorated minute allowances anymore just prorated service charges although i hope they just bill the difference between plans rather than prorating service charges as that just isnt right for either the customer or vzw. this will launch 2nd quarter probably in may i believe, this IS going to happen whether its hard to swallow or not..lol
