Hi,
Currently, I have the original MotoQ and I am able to use a 3rd party software (PDAnet) to use the phone as a modem. I am thinking of getting a new phone, specifical the new Blackberry when it comes out. Does anyone know if i will be able to use this phone as a modem. I do not have the Verizon tethering featurea and PDAnet does not require it. I do however, have unlimited data plan.

tethering and the blackberry service is $60 a month i believe.

If you just want the blackberry service its 30 bucks for consumer email and 45 for business enterprise email.

$30 for BB service $30 to tether on top of that =$60 total. If it is business then $45 BB service $15 tether= $60 again. So basically if you go with the BB you will be $60 for service on the BB and tethering together

Isn't it possible to use a cellphone to connect to a simple old-school dial-up connection, and connect the audio to your computer? In other words, not using it for data but just as the connection to the dialup service just like you would a landline phone?

I write for a living and would love to have this kind of option as a backup when submitting a story outside wifi range. Just a simple dialup connect so I could e-mail the story as text.

old phones supposedly could do it, as i was informed by a customer a couple of years ago. the network wasnt intended to be used that way, so they removed the option from what i believe. you will need to have a tether feature added to your account. i believe if you buy a pda without a data plan, you still have to have a $60 tether feature attached to use the net.
