Bidding on Auction 58 closed yesterday raising a total of $2.25 billion in 91 rounds of bidding. Metro PCS's $374.5 million dollar bid for Los Angeles remained the highest single bid for a lot since the first day. Metro PCS also won spectrum in a number of mid-sized cities in Florida, helping their proxy to remain the top bidder. Verizon had two proxies, finishing second and third in spending, and so was the top bidding tier one carrier. They won lots all over the country, most notably spending $141 million for St. Louis and winning one of the hotly contested lots in both Houston and San Diego. Indeed. May take in excess of a year to set up service towers there, but look for it towards the end of 2005(maybe sooner?).
