Verizon Driving Using Rearview Mirror

The bottom line for me is Verizon reps misrepresent roll over and paint gloom and doom pictures of ATT/Cingular merger. They are attempting to live and thrive based on two year old data and taking complete advantage of the uninformed customer with regard to current trends and network largess.

Because they have a head start and large numbers of VErizon customers instead of Cingulars combo ATT/Cingular customer base they still have the "lemming advantage"

Once the general public realizes Verizon is spewing old data without regard to current conditions, and actually looks at Cingular and GSM in general offferings in terms of phones, Data, pricing, netork, no roaming fess EVER on the largest network Cingular will prevail.
I believe and hope as Cingular becomes more present in advertising and society in general thay will supass Verizon in net additions. That day is comming. A day any Verizon Rep only a year ago laughed at and ridiculed.

Its only a matter of time and the trend is only beginning as evidant by Verizons relativly recent changes in many areas of there business, most causing a REDUCTION in potential or current revenue.

Mark these words from a non employee of any communications company, just a lowly customer of mobile services.

Cingular has surprised many people with their positive growth numbers and their reduced churn, especially since they bought the world's worst wireless carrier.
Now about GSM vs. CDMA try talking to a network engineer who understands how both work. You obviously only seem to talk to people who offer opinions about the power of GSM.
At one time it was the best network available, that is why most of the world adopted it as a standard. If CDMA had been available at that time, there would have been a greater number of countries using it that now use GSM.

Now if you have been paying attention to anything on any forum you will see that for all wireless carriers voice service is not much of a revenue growth product. It is a core or backbone that other products are launched from. This is why they are going to text messaging, picture and video messaging, data and even TV over the phone screen. All wireless carriers are looking for additional revenue sources and are coming out with innovative products to do so. I don't think you can say that either carrier is "behind" but that they are taking differen

Was I the only one who was NOT surprised by Cingular's success?

I predicted this a year ago and got flamed. I predicted it because of what I saw in Cingular, my research reading and other personal experiences, but mostly due to my own experiences with Verizon Reps in a few different markets.

I travel alot so I have the opportunity to do that. I came to the conclusion that VErizon had a corporate culture that exuded and maybe even rewarded arrogance and infallibility. This is much different than a corporate culture of confidence and pride.

Much of it still exists today but for a few brave souls who see and hear the big Orange truck coming down the highway.

The flaming was so intense I became hopeful of the complete demise of th...

Any idiot on earth could have stated that Cingular was going to buy ATT since it has been a speculation for over two years. Now picture this spanky, Verizon Wireless buys Alltel and then Cingular is number 2 again and Verizon doesn't blow 41 Billion. It is that easy but Verizon is in no hurry, why should they be since they had been number one since July 2000. The only way Cingular could get bigger was buying the third largest carrier. Verizon could buy a tier two company like Alltel and be bigger for less. Hmmmm sounds like Verizon is staying where they are and letting Cingular prove that they won't screw this up and that is a lot of pressure for a poorly run company like Cingular.

If CDMA had been available at that time, there would have been a greater number of countries using it that now use GSM.

Not true. Qualcomm tried very hard to get Europe to buy into cdma. Europe saw what they offered and decided on an open standard instead of being forced to do what qualcomm says. GSM and CDMA were pitched at the same time. GSM just made it to a live network first.

Yeah I was in Europe when the first GSM network was being launched... in 1992. GSM was not implemented in the 80's. The early 80's gave us analog and tdma wasn't even launched until the mid to late 80's. It's verifiable comman knowledge that the first GSM netwo...

I did a google on the subject and GSM is shown to have been implemented in Europe well before CDMA. It seems most European countries were stuck on the concept as early as '82.

I explained the confusion in another post.
The name GSM has been around since the 80's. It was the name of a French carrier. They used tdma.
The technology GSM was launched in europe in 1992. They got the name from France's carrier, but changed what the acronym stood for.
You are absolutely correct in saying that Europe had the concept of a one standard system for much longer. They did not choose the GSM technology standard until 1991 and launched it in 1992. CDMA had it's first network launch in 1995...

Here's an excerpt: It's from the viewpoint of Qualcomm. I'm sure the UMTS forum has a slightly different take on the same events. But even the guy from qualcomm says they turned down cdma2000 for an open standard.
A letter in the Economist last week from UK E-minister Stephen Timms pointed out European operators never had to settle on the W-CDMA 3G standard, now blamed for so many problems from slow network roll outs to the probable cost of handsets. They could have ...

I don't understand what the issue is with talking to Truck Drivers. I travel to entertainment destinations as I am in that line of work. My father had a trucking business years ago with 10 trucks so yes it is possible someone would have an affinity to speak to truck drivers at truck stops without regard to their social status or choice of work.

It seems so incredulous to you guys that someone would do that. I can only suppose many of you consider truck drivers akin to the homeless and would never think of inviting a conversation with one. You polo clubbers might learn something other than the 0-60 time of a BMW.

Again the arrogance and self aggrandizing becomes painfully evident in your snobbish attitude. Almost seems as if having a Ve...
