RICHMOND, Va. — Circuit City Stores (CC) said Monday that it is pulling the plug on about 20% of its U.S. stores in an effort to return the nation's No. 2 consumer electronics retailer to profitability.
The company said it will shutter 155 of its more than 700 stores in 55 markets, including Phoenix and Atlanta, by Dec. 31, laying off about 17% of its domestic work force. According to its website, the company had nearly 46,000 employees domestic and international at the end of February.
Circuit City also said it will further reduce store openings and plans to work with landlords to renegotiate leases, lower rent or terminate agreements.

Verizon has no control over the performance of a CC store. They don't even have a say in hours or location. They barely have a say in kiosk placement within the store.
Since it's beyond Verizon's control that a CC store is being closed, they would simply move the employees elsewhere or find alternate options. These VZW people will simply find themselves in regular stores or possibly at a call center if one is nearby. They're not going to be dumped simply because Circuit City is a failing business.
