It will vary depending on location. I wouldn't be surprised if most places put a hold on the phone for 2 yr contracts exc. until they are sure they have the supply to meet the demand.

Usually, 1 year contract pricing is $70 more than 2 year. This would make the phone $319.99 - $50 mail in rebate = $269.99.

About the comment on holding them for only the 2 year contracts............... rumor has it, at least where I am, All the Storms in the corporate stores/kiosks will be for NEW lines of service at launch. Exsisting customers can upgrade their devices to get the Storm but it will be direct shipped to you.

Second rumor, this device will not be sold at full retail price at launch either. If the supply runs out, Verizon does not want people trying to sell them on ebay and making a killing on them.

The local store near me got wind that they'll have between 70 and 100 Storms, which is a lot for any launch.

Some managers use some odd tactics to reserve phones for new lines only. Technically, they can't bar renewal and full retail customers from buying any device. But because the name of the sales game is "NEW LINES," you find a lot of stores that go out of their way to use a hot phone to land new lines.

Verizon doesn't maintain an official policy that allows managers to refuse to sell anything for a renewal. If so, we'd get way too much gruff about it - not a good way to keep customers loyal.

Exactly. There is no such policy. Verizon retail manager's run their stores like fiefs, however. So I would not be surprised if a manager had his employees go through the sales process and once determining that it is neither a paid renewal or an activation...direct fulfil the phone. I really cannot say that I blame them. No decent sales rep works for the hourly.

Don't generalize us all. My store is getting about 75 or so and we're not going to limit who can buy what. As far as I'm concerned, if you want one, come get one. You're going to get me a small commission on the new data package (which add up quick), and you can't deactivate it without changing phones entirely, so no worry there.

Over the years they've changed the way we get paid, and I make less than I could have when I started in 2004 - the commissions game has changed for corporate sales reps, so the hourly is CRITICAL now. Oddly enough, they change the payouts and tell us they want us to be "consultant" instead of salespeople, but they make the sales requirements harder while making the payout smaller. Expectation and reality are...

I'm sorry. I didn't generalize anyone. I said I would not be surprised if a store manager had a 'house rule' not that it is common. I've never been a store manager, but I've had By the Book and Snake Oil. Snake Oil made more money, but they ran him out of there when his practices caught up to him.

Yeah, we had a local store that ran Snake Oil. The entire management team left "to pursue other opportunities." Sad that it took a year for it catch up to them after those managers were put in place.

It's not easy balancing what's right for the customer with what's right for your boss' boss' paycheck. Even more, it's sad that I have to make that choice anyway.
