Basically.. to keep the story short..

My girlfriends phone is starting to mess up, and she is going to need a new one soon. However, the line won't be eligible for an upgrade for almost a year since it's the secondary line on the fam share plan.

Even the basic phones bought outright from Verizon are expensive, so I was thinking about getting a phone off eBay. I see new Moto W755's going for around 150+ which seems like a pretty good deal considering they're $240 at VZW without a contract.

My first though was to just add insurance on the phones, and when it finally does break.. get another to replace it. But she doesn't like the phone much anyways, and is wanting one with a memory card slot(and maybe a megapixel camera too).

Is ...

The numbers don't lie. Look at how many phone are for sale on E-Bay, the people aren't wrong. And if you want something sooner check you're local Crag's List.
If your going to buy off E-Bay check the sellers feedback and skip the insurance, it's a rip off.
Myself as I assume many others here have bought and sold many phones online without any trouble.

Yeah.. previously when I had T Mobile.. and Nextel.. I bought phones off eBay.

I wouldn't bother with insurance, but if her phone breaks I might not have the money to get another.. but $50 for a replacement would be doable.

I've had customers have good and bad experiences with purchasing a phone from ebay or craigslist.

Ask the seller for the ESN/MEID (serial #) prior to purchasing the phone. Contact VZW Customer service who then will speak with technical support to see if it is on a lost/stolen/non-payment list. If you purchase it without getting the serial # then VZW cannot activate it and there is nothing they can do about it.

If the seller does not want to provide you with the ESN/MEID then do not purchase it from them as it may be on the lost/sotlen/non-payment list. They may not want you give it to you for their security. They don't want you to put it on your account and report it as lost/stolen.

Now what is going on with her phone? You said it ...

Well it doesn't want to charge anymore. If may just be the charger.. or it may be the phone. Even when it's plugged all the way in sometimes it doesn't charge, it has to be positioned just right to charge.

If it's under a year old then have warranty replace it. Just call and tell them the phone won't charge.

I didn't really think about the phone having a 1 year warranty.

That seems like the best route to go right now.

Is it possible for me to call the 1-888 number to get my new phone at a 2yr contract price.. and then have it activated for her line instead?
