I know of course VZW still has the centro, the old 755P and the REALLY OLD 700wx, but is VZW EVER planning on releasing another WM Palm Treo? 800w? Treo Pro?

Just waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting...the waiting is getting old.

I know "Omnia", "Saga", "Touch" etc...None of those phones meet the needs of a TREO user (even tried th Saga since I was sick of waiting...TRIED to like it for a week and finally sent it back).

I'm hearing rumors that VZW is not planning on carrying anything more from Palm and I SOOOOOO HOPE THAT IS NOT TRUE!!!

Please VZW? We need the 800w or the Treo Pro - Either one, please!!!

Honestly, coming from Treo's running Windows Mobile I could NEVER understand why people hated Windows Mobile so much...then I got the Saga...Now I get it.

I'm not sure if it's Palm altering the hell out of Windows Mobile for their Treo's or everyone else altering the hell out of it and Palm just putting a "base" install of it on the Treo's, but it's just soooooooo much easier to use, straight forward, one click operation for most things, the quick call list, the search feature on the today screen, the quick easy dialing etc. On the Saga when I wanted to call my wife, even after setting up a shortcut to do it, I had to click on the shortcut to the shortcuts, then click on the shortcut, then click on her number which then brought up a call...

I take it you don't like the Blackberry OS (they can read excel, word, etc now)?

I think they might be the reason why you're not seeing a lot of palms coming out for VZW. With the Blackberries, and some of the new WM devices out on the market, palms might not be selling in the numbers needed to make a dedicated CDMA version for VZW.

Personally, I don't really like the Palm os, and the only WM phones I've had a lot of experience with are the HTC Touch, and the Moto Q, and it is a little confusing, I agree.

As for your comment with rollover, do you have months where you would use up those minutes? Rollover is a nice value if you have months where you are low, and others where you are high, but typically if you have a ton of rollo...

Our business is seasonal (it doesn't "end" in a given season, just slows quite a bit) and thus yes, we would save a bundle because we could lower our minute plan and use excess minutes gained in the slow season when things pick up in the busy season.

As for the blackberries, I've tried those too, major problems with those too in terms of business use, we need access to our full exchange mailboxes (sub folders etc) which blackberries cannot do. Additionally blackberries do not have iR and do not run the programs we need to run.

Blackberries I recognize are extremely solid good devices, but they just do not fit our needs.

Almost forgot, with the touch pro and other smartphones we see, have played with etc they all seem to be focused on the "pro-sumer" and while I'm sure that's quite nice for a lot of people we are extremely heavy & mobile business users and have no time or patience for "pro-sumer" minded devices. So while the Touch Pro might be cool looking, slick working etc it's far too cumbersome for us to get around on it and do what we need to do (this is in addition to the problem of the overall functionality short comings of the implementation of WM on the device) and then of course there's that sliding keyboard which will automatically elminate any and all phones for us as we absolutely REQUIRE easy one handed operation/emailing/messaging etc.

you made some pretty key observations in your other post that I guess I didnt think about. It sounds like a port over to att or sprint might be your best bet. I really don't think verizon is going to be making any moves to treos with WM anytime soon.

Well, like I said we've got a few months more on our contracts, if still nothing available then, AT&T here we come (we tried sprint already, on VZW we drop maybe 2-3 calls a month, on sprint we were dropping 2-3 calls a day - so a no go there).

Just sucks that VZW doesn't focus on a good variety of phones to choose from and instead seems to focus on a once in a while exclusivity with a random device which other companies get as well IN ADDITION to their overall wide variety of devices.

I'll tell you what, if Verizon stopped being stingy in their device offerings, maybe took 25% of their data prices they would absolutely CRUSH all competition. On the flip side if AT&T fixes their coverage and dropped call issues to be on par service wis...

as long as verizon keeps adding the number of people that they do each quarter--dont expect lower prices.

And att does have lower data rates, but their rates for iphone and blackberry are the same as verizon.

As a cell junkie, verizon is definitely getting frustrating. VZW gets everything last and of course they have to monkey around with the software. Hopefully they begin to see that the market is shifting towards smartphones and that they need to push these manufacturers to get CDMA devices out much quicker

Working for Verizon, I hear a lot of this same frustration. After seeing the steps they have taken with the Omnia, I think Verizon is moving in the right direction. Most of the things they are infamous for (UI, bluetooth, wi-fi) are really starting to lighten up, and its a trend I hope continues. That being said, I think I recall seeing something about VZW potentially getting the 800w, but don't quote me on that. I'm not a Palm fan myself, nut I'd like to have something to offer Palm users other than the Centro (which does nothing for most business users). Here's hoping we get it, but if not good luck on your switch!

I have some internal insight on this.

Palm's track record on devices passing Verizon's internal testing is not good. In fact, it's quite dismal. The devices consistently fail to meet their own technical specifications - the internal workings of the device, not "network speed" or "memory card capacity." For instance, most Palms in the last few years don't pass basic E911 requirements. It only takes a phone not working in one of the test markets to fail it across the board.

So when Verizon tests a device, we work with the manufacturer to fix the problem. Sometimes that process takes a long time (months). Occasionally, the device never passes testing, and Verizon passes on the device.

This is what happened to the Treo 800W. It h...

Well considering how unstable my Palm 755p with the Palm OS was, they can keep em.
