I know somebody that is about to get a new 2 year contract. He is planning to get a a-670,but i told him to get the UTStarcom/ Audiovox CDM8940 with the rebate price and i will trade him my a-670 and some money for his 8940 so i wont have to pay 400$ dollars for it.Is it possible for me to activate the 8940 on my account and the a-670 on his. 😕

Since you guys may mot use SIM cards and Verizon needs every dollar..

I could be wrong but I would say no........On GSM this is easy thing to do I believe.

You can do it, but you would have to wait about 90 days, after that you can do the ESN swap on the phones, activate your number using his phone ESN, and then his number with your ESN.

The only downside is that since you are not the original purchaser of the phone, then your warranty is not worth the paper its printed on, same is the warranty for his phone.

these guys are both wrong. you could do make the switch within 30 seconds of him buying the phone if you wanted to.

Lance is correct. Keep in mind that you and your friend have to conference the call to VZW. If you don't want to conference the call or can't then you, eduardo, would 1st have to activate an older phone you used to have by calling VZW or in my account on vzw.com. By activating an older phone it frees up the serial # for your a670

but cant verizon just do the switch even w/o an older phone. When I do that for a customer I also use a loaner phone in my store to free up the ESN but sometimes I dont want to do it and when I call it in, they use a dummy ESN and the same with Nextel, they have a dummy IMEI.

The only issue is that an active account must have an ESN associated with it. So a valid ESN other than one being traded must be temporarily used on one of the lines while the switch is made.

A dummy ESN can be used, however, policy does not technically permit it. This doesn't mean that reps don't routinely do it, however. 😉

If the customer doesn't want to activate an older phone first he would have to conference the call w/ his friend to VZW or he can have his friend call in and have the rep notate the acct w/ something like "customers friend, eduardo, is authorized to do an esn change/swap.

The main reason for this is our verification policy.

And If I am not mistaken, the warranty is still valid on both phones provided you can provide proof of purchase. At least that is what I was told about giving my Dad my v710 when I got my VX8000.

How the FU*** & WTF?

How can these two blighters give out advice about what can be done in Verizon systems when one works for "Blue" (and considering the flames he gets from Cingy/ATT reps in the Cingy forum, it sounds like he doesn't know his arse from the donkey he slept with) and the other has diarheaa of the mouth and displays manic OCD tendancies... "VErizon is WEak, VErizon is WEak, VErizon is WEak..."

Good question. Kingfrog's an anti-Verizon troll and general nutbar, and BlueGuy's expertise (if he has some) would be with ATTW, not Verizon. So yeah, its a little weird that they'd want to give advice on the VZW forums.

Oh well, caveat emptor, as they say.

Your own peps cannot agree on this question. LOL

With VErizon even something simple as changing or trading phones becomes a hassle involving reps and conference calls etc....Funny stuff.

Verizon has had to make sooooo many changes to their plans and service rates in the last four months....(thank you Cingy)..perhaps a simple SIM card is on the way as well...I think not. Their phones sucked then , now and always will.

YOu guys owe Cingy a big debt of gratitude fro your sudden Verizon windfalls.

Do you let Cingular do you bareback often??? Or is it a strictly M2C relationship?

You actually expect him to understand what you're talking about? You're giving him far too much credit.

no, he's right, they really did.

all of our plans stayed the smae price, but more minutes were added. we just launched a new prepay plan "INpulse." we are relaunching the PTT things, but cheaper than nextel. lots of changes. 9.99 family share secondary lines.

Changes with Verizon Wireless happen seasonally, right now, we are in the winter season for VZW. These changes are ongoing for this season, not a bunch of different ones. Due to the amount of things changing, VZW decided it would be easier for the customer if they spread the changes of the entire season.

do you think anybody who's getting shagged would be on here as much as he is? The only thing that he's shagging is the Cingular pillow he has.

the 8940 is the worst of the EVDO phones....if you are going to go through the possible hassle of doing the switch...why dont you just the samsung or the LG...just a thought

I too don't think its bad. Massive memory and a mp3 player. Most people complain about the speakerphone saying its not loud enough when one is in a crowded area. I personally am not going to use any speakerphone when people are around.

The only thing that I personally dont like is that there is no manner mode; of course you can push the buttons on the side to make it go into vibrate.

The 8000 would be perfect for me if it had a memory card slot.

except the 8000 is like twice as big! I like the small size of the 8940 and the memory slot too... let's you take advantage of the MP3 player capabilities...
