They cannot activate it because the ESN was activated on your account.

And when you reported it lost (please tell me you called Verizon to report it lost), it went on the Negative ESN list that bans the serial number from being activated.

Good news - Asurion had brand new Storms ready to ship a whole week before the phone was released - you should be getting a brand-spanking new Storm from Asurion.

Report your old phone as lost. As others have said, this locks the ESN and makes it very difficult for someone to use your phone on their line, and will make it impossible for the typical consumer.

You can keep the device, just make sure that you have them take it off of the lost or stolen list. Most CDMA companies flag the ESN on the device to make sure that no one else can use it. You should be able to keep it and possibly in the next few weeks sell it outright and make your money back.

You should send it back. That is how premiums and deductables get so high. The right thing to do is sent back either the new phone or old phone. They also but the old phones esn on the lost/stolen list so if you sell it they won't be able to ever activate it. And if you try to call in and take it off they wont let you. Asurion is the only one who can take it of that list.

Whenever Asurion replaces a phone they add the old phone to a list which prevents it from ever being activated again.

Once the deductible is paid it is NON refundable. This means that even if you find the other phone and have Asurion stop the shipment on the replacement phone, you will not get the 50 bucks back. I would not try to sell the phone on Ebay because of the possibility that the ESN is on a "negative" file which renders the phone useless. You could try to reactivate the phone on another line, but it all depends on the rep that did the insurance claim. Technically if the claim is lost/stolen then the ESN is to be put on that list. Since you filed a claim, the only party that can remove this from the list is Asurion (since this phone is now their property). If the rep did not follow through and do the listing of the ESN you could reactivate th...
