Best bet for a VZW smartphone?

I am due for a new phone at the beginning of Feb and want a smartphone. Which one is the best option? I'm hesitant about a touch screen, although I'm open to it if it works well. I was really hoping the Storm would be great, but it sounds like a bust. So which is it? Omnia? Saga? Blackberry Curve? (And is it silly to commit to an older model like that for 2 yrs?)

Or do I wait until new phones come out?

Help!

I would go curve or Samsung Omnia. If you are a heavy texter/emailer then the blackberry route is probably the way to go. The omnia is windows mobile, but it has gotten some very good feedback since its release.

Im personally not a huge windows mobile fan, but it can be very functional if tinker around with it a little bit. I like Blackberries because they are pretty much flawless right outta the box.

That's what I keep hearing. My only hesitation is that the Curve has been on the market for a while. Is it still as sharp as other newer models by other companies (display resolution, speed, etc)? I just don't want to end up with a Curve that feels old after a year. I will be more or less stuck with it for two years!

you should be able to do an annual upgrade on a yearly basis...so you won't really be "stuck" with the phone.

The curve is still a great device. Its not as fast as the att bold, but it does the job well. The verizon bold and curve 2 will probably not be out until mid to late spring.

How would I be eligible for an annual upgrade? I thought it was "New Every 2."

once you get a smartphone data plan you generally qualify for annual upgrades. they are offered to high rate plan customers who keep up to date with their bill payments.

If your monthly bill is above $50 (I think that's the threshold) you can upgrade annually at the 2 year contract price. You don't receive any additional money off the contract price and I'm pretty sure you have to sign a new deal. But this allows you to get a significant deal on a device each year if you choose to do so.

Gotcha... didn't know about that.

Back to the phones... so the consensus seems to be the Curve is the best option? What is the case to be made for the Omnia? I do think I'd be using it for emailing/texting very often, but a good browser is a must as well.

Omnia will have a better browser, but for me, the curve is better on just about all other fronts. I also like BB's for first time smartphone users. They are very easy to use, and very intuitive.

honestly, i loved my curve. i still have it (2gb card and like new curve 200 no contract, sorry i had too lol) but i love my storm. a lot of the reviews are from people that pick it up, it doesnt work how they feel it should, and say it sucks. i have had mine for 2 weeks and like it better then the curve, and my dare. (also for sale, 200 with a 4gb card, again, sorry i had to.)

as with the omnia, i have used other winmo phones and am fairly comfortable with winmo, but the omnia didnt do anything for me. it felt like i was going back to my old winmo phone but with a good camera. and i didnt find the touchscreen all that responsive, especially compared to the storm, though a hair under par compared to my dare. with the type of touchscreen o...

I'll be honest, I freaking love my Curve. I've heard some people such as willv say they like the Storm better, but not myself. I guess it comes down to personal preference. I probably won't get rid of my Curve until I can get a Bold or Curve 8900. However, I got my wife the Samsung Saga for Christmas, and I have to say it's pretty sweet. Not a huge WinMo fan, but its not a bad device. Just make sure you get an extended battery if you go that route, because the browser (Opera Mobile rocks) sucks juice like crazy. The optical mouse is very nice for times you can't break out the stylus, and it feels a lot like the trackball on my Curve, which I like. Good luck on your choice!

Man I can't freaking wait til the Bold comes our way! Of course, if its as expensive as it is with AT&T, I may have to pick up the Curve 8900 instead...ah decisions 😉

Yeah it should be sweet. Hopefully the CDMA version looks as good as the GSM one.
