SCAM
Don't respond to Emails, phone calls, or web pages which tell you to call

Apparently, this alleged scam has been around for over 5 years and has little basis for truth. Sort of an Urban Legend.
ATT states that "the scam itself is real, however, the e-mail and warning contain erroneous information." So exercise caution when calling "809" numbers
I wouldn't worry too much about it affecting a Verizon cell call because, the 809 area code is currently on the blocked list of area codes that you can not call from a VZW wireless phone.
