The press release did not say that it was a dead technology. What was not mentioned in this press release is that the predominant carrier in India is using GSM for its legacy customers and those who need to use their phones in the European market but they are installing CDMA 450 in the rest of India to be the predominant technology of choice.
Also the Chinese are currently using CDMA and may continue to build it out instead of the other technologies they have considered. They are using EVDO in many of the larger cities.
It shows that CDMA has a great future in other developing parts of the world. Even Russia may deploy EVDO as its standard network.
