😕 I've got a phone that will not activate. I changed it online and it shows as changed. However it will not activate with star 228. All features are correct. It's a blackberry. Do I need to be in a specific service area? 🙄

Where did you get the phone?

if you ordered it online from vzw.com, there should be a form in the box about how to activate the phone. Phones ordered from their site have a "lock" on them that you can unlock by callign the toll free number included with the phone to confirm your order. This is how they go over the disclosures and have you verify that you agree to whatever the terms of your contract in exchange for the phone.

If you got it somewhere else, you might want to call customer service and ask them to verify the ESN/MEID that it is correct and that it isn't on a lost/stolen list or otherwise locked.

Also try *22899 It is a shortcut to take you past the prompts and go directly to activating the phone..

What phone do you have?

If *228 doesn't work, the phone might need to be flashed. If flashing is not an option, you can manually program it but how to do that depend on what phone you have

Also if it is a Blackberry storm it requires a Nationwide package. if you are on the old America's Choice plan which is almost identical in rates (data charges are different) then you need to call CS or go into a store and have them troubleshoot it. Should be a quick fix though.

That is not true. The Storm does NOT require Nationwide. It doesn't use data like the normal phones and has nothing to do with Nationwide or Americas Choice.

You could be right. the 2 times I had trouble activating a storm on an upgrade the activations department had me move it to nationwide then try activating it again with no problem...but then again eRoes has a mind of its own sometimes. What agent chain you work for?

I've seen phones on non nationwide plans, but there is almost always an issue with activating them

Generally when this happens it means that phone is tied to another account. The ESN number is now probably listed on 2 accounts and the system doesn't know which one to program to your phone.

There is also a slim chance the phone just won't OTA for some reason and will require manual programming. Manual programming will also make the phone work if it's tied to another account. You'll need the MIN as well as the MDN though.

This is an older BB a 7130e that I got as a backup. Thought I'd see if it was activate-able so to speak. I guess that I was under the wrong impression that I had to be in a BB service area to receive service books. It was able to be posted to my account online without any problems so it is not tied to another account. Just couldn't get it to activate to the handset or get the service books. It finally worked without rolling to CS and without taking the more expensive plan since I switched online. I do not need BES and have blocked corporate use on the phone. Thank you for all the replies. All were very helpful information and much appreciated.

😲 Okay, not funny now I'm just a cdma modem in provisioning. I can still make phone calls though so what the heck. Who cares. No internet or email. mmm strange modem behavior. But the laugh is on me I guess. 😁
