I will be integrated into the Verizon system soon, as I have Alltel service in Charlottesville, VA. I was a very satisfied Verizon customer in the DC market for many years, but after living in Charlottesville for two years, too many people were wanting me to have a local number, so I left Verizon and switched over to Alltel. I'm absolutely thrilled to be back with Verizon in the not-to-distant future, since so many of my contacts are already Verizon customers, and I'll get to talk to them free with the in-network feature.
Now, here's the rub...
I can wait and purchase a Verizon phone after the switch-over is done, and I'll be happy to buy one at full retail price IF I can keep my Alltel plan with my 10 "My Circle" numbers, all of whi...

if you sign with verizon after they come through your area , you will not get to keep your verizon plan, you cant use a V phone right now with your alltel plan.... so get something now and be grandfathered in or be assimilated to verizon when they come through, i dont think even if you pay full price you still cant use it
yes i spelled assimilated wrong..sorry 🙄 i

sorry ..correction , YOU CANT KEEP YOUR ALLTEL MYCIRCLE plan

You have to choose from the plans that Verizon offers.

Thanks for the response. Now, if I want to buy the Verizon phone at full retail, I will still have to give up my Alltel My Circle? Suppose I buy an Alltel phone at full retail...can I still keep my Alltel plan and be grandfathered in? When Alltel bought Cellular One (not the company that is now AT&T, another one), I was working for Alltel. We allowed the CellOne customers to upgrade and keep their plan (there was an incredible unlimited plan for local calling with CellOne) as long as they purchased the new phone at full retail, which many did. Do you think Verizon will not do the same thing? BTW, Verizon isn't here yet. I'm eligible to upgrade my Alltel plan at a promotional discount in about 6 weeks. Do I benefit from buying a new A...

No, they won't let you keep any Alltel services that Verizon Wireless does not offer.

So, just to be clear, I will NOT be allowed to grandfather my Alltel plan over to Verizon at all, whether I buy a phone at full retail or not? If your answer is "yes, that's correct", that goes against standard operating procedure of any previous takeover I'm familiar with. I sold cellular service for 15 years, mostly in the DC market, so I am somewhat familiar with the history.
Please confirm, and again, thanks very much for the information.

You can keep your Alltel plan, features, everything when Alltel is gone.
BUT if you up-grade your phone with Verizon, its a must to change your plan to a Verizon one.
Go ahead and upgrade with Alltel.
There are ways to unlock CDMA phones to access them on Verizons network tho.
...
AHA! Thank you.
Now, I have to decide what phone I want.
I think Verizon has some phones available that are CDMA, but also have the capacity for GSM should I travel overseas. I don't think Alltel has that flexibility, do they? And again, I do NOT want a smartphone. Just something solid to make and take phone calls when necessary.
Thank you!

all the info you have received in this thread is strictly opinion. Nothing has officially come down from on high. While what has been said may come to fruition, I've heard other rumors as well...
Nothing is set in concrete.

Black berry world addition, buy it on Ebay
it was a Alltel CDMA/SIM phone

Yea, thats right, but they can't access all the GSM service in the world like we can because we have more phones with diffrent bands.
AT&T has more because of the bands there phones can pick up on.

Yea, butg not by much. When verizon comes out with there new set of gsm cdma phones then verizon will pick up on them. Verizon has the best world data service. Verizons gsm service picks up in the major countries already and roaming charges are a lot cheaper, so verizon is the best choice.

There is a MOTO RIZR world edition (I would stay away from this one because IMO motorola phones are not the best verizon offers)
There are two Blackberry's and a samsung PDA that are all global capable phones. as well.

That's too funny. 🤣 With the amount of cell phones I didn't think anyone had a "local" number anymore because it costs the same no matter where you are with cell companies.
You must have some (perhaps cheap) landline...locked friends. 😛
As for using VZW overseas with one of their world phones, well if you're company is going to pay for that or you have money to throw away. I'd look at unlocking the GSM side of the phone or just get any old unlocked GSM phone off E-bay and pick up a local SIM card online. Then have your phone calls forwarded there.

I had one bad experience buying a phone on eBay, and I won' do that again. You never really know exactly what you're getting. I know that Verizon has had or maybe still has a Motorola phone with CDMA/GSM capability that is not a Smartphone. Don't need those bells and whistles, and I don't want to pay for an unused data package.
Yes, I should have kept my Verizon DC number, but I was in extended area 100% of the time, and I couldn't check my minutes on my phone there, so Alltel was a reasonable alternative. Actually, it's been a pretty good service, and a lot of locals are quite upset to see Alltel be eaten up by Verizon. I told them that except for the My Circle feature, Verizon beats Alltel every day and twice on Sunday for supe...

Samsung Renown┞¢ And Motorola Z6c are GSM phone from Verizon which do not require Data Packs.
Verizon also has the lowest World Roaming rates. A lot lower then AT&T.
Also, Verizon is looking into keeping My Circle and giving it too Verizon customers!

That last bit about my circle I'm assuming is speculation, as nothing official has come out about it.
