PRL Update Question

I think I'm SOL, but I thought I would ask the question here. Here is the situation.

I have been a verizon customer for a while and using my phone in all kinds of areas. However, I just got a new LG VX6100 from my local Verizon store. I specifically asked CSR if he updated the PRL and he told me yes. And I promptly left town. I am now in a roaming area where other people with the same verizon phone as me have service. My only conclusion is that the CSR didnot update the PRL. Is there anything that can be done or do I have to wait until I get back home to fix this problem.

Try *228 and see what happens? I'm not 100% on this but I believe if that is an area that is not a roaming area, like it's been added then you will not actually be charged roaming. The *228 simply updates the phone so that it displays the proper thing. It doesn't actually affect whether you are charged roaming or not. You could have a situation where you haven't updated your PRL in a year and new coverage has been added. Your phone will still say roam but you won't actually be charged. In your case... I think you do have an updated PRL. Anytime you get a new phone the PRL is automatically updated when the phone is programmed. It is part of the process. If your phone was activated it automatically downloaded the latest PRL.

The problem is that I'm not showing any service, where my co-worker with the exact same phone is showing service. It is like it is not finding anything. If my co-worker didn't have service and my previous phone didn't have a problem, I would just assume that there was no service where I'm at. My phone worked back home, so I know it was programmed correctly there.

I'd say you are on one of the new no roaming plans and in one of the few areas that have now become no service areas. People that are still on the old plans will continue to be able to roam. You're new plan will not roam. Many of the roaming areas are now included in the coverage, a few are now no service.

That is exactly the problem.....I didn't realize the new plans had no roaming. And the CSR did not mention that at all. That really irritates me. Because while I knew I was in a roaming area and I didn't make a lot of calls, I could still be reached in an emergency via my cell phone. If the CSR had told me of this possibility, then I would have kept my old plan.

Thanks for your Help. I still think VZW is great in the areas where it works, but this really **** me. Too bad I'm locked into this contract. I guess I have to wait until they change their plans again to get this fixed.

Problem is I'm not sure Verizon will go back to allowing A/C plans to "roam" even if there is a 69 cent per minute charge.

You might try calling VZW and seeing if they can migrate you back to your old plan. Obviously everyone didn't move when the new plans were announced so the codes for the old plans still exist.

call customer service from a landline 800-922-9294 so they can troubleshoot your phone. Go thru the settings of the phone and make sure that you are on automatic b setting and not home only and check you nam setting to make sure that you are on a nam 1 setting. If this doesn't work call customer service...Also try dialing *18 send....
