Which is more important to YOU..the network or the phone?

There seems to be quite a few threads on here lately about people leaving VZW simply because another network is offering a deal on a cool new phone (BB Bold on AT&T is one example). This makes no sense to me at all. If I have said it once, I've said it a thousand times...I don't care how awesome the phone is; if the network sucks the phone will too! A phone is only as good as the network it is on. In my opinion (and experience) Verizon has the very best network by far.

Now granted, there will always be those rare instances when a different network has better coverage than VZW in certain areas. I'm not talking about those people. They have to do what they can. But MOST people are going to downgrade their service just for a new pho...

I have jumped ship many times for a phone that I just had to have, it was always a mistake but one I never really seem to learn from. I'm just a gadget junkie I really make no apologies for it. Hell I might jump ship for the PRE.

Brown27 I am the same as you for the most part. It just so happens that I got the Bold because I get no signal for VZW at my house. I do love VZW and always seem to go back so I am probably just burning through money for no other reason then to try out a cool new phone. I am what I am and it is what it is.

Going on a fishing trip Matt?

Well if I am, I'd better take my Verizon phone because once you get off a paved road, most other networks drop! 😛 sorry...that was too easy.

Your statement about how people who live in major cities don't need to worry, only makes sense if you never plan to travel or go anywhere.

I've tried other networks. Verizon is consistantly the best.

I'm just speaking from my personal experience. I was most recently with AT&T for a two-year contract. We had good phones (it's funny how as soon as you complain about a network someone always jumps in and claims that it's because you had a sucky phone) yet our service was way below par. There were many places when I traveled that I could not get a reliable signal, and even when I did have a strong signal the voice quality was often garbled. Then there were the multiple "system outages" in the last few months of my contract. I could not wait to get back to VZW. I would never go back to AT&T just for a cool new phone. They would have to make some HUGE improvements first.

Actually ATT is dead last because their data charges are a bit more than ours are... on everything else we are pretty comparable.

Tmobile is a great company if you live in or near a city. If you don't, your phone will really suffer. I was with Tmobile when they first became tmobile (instead of voice stream) and while my phone did work in some far off places, it was voice only. no texts, no voicemail, etc. Coverage is huge.
So if i was offered a G1 (a phone I really love) for free with free coverage for 2 years if I dropped Verizon (even before employee plan) I would not take it because I wouldn't have service where I spend 90% of my time.
