Blocking Restricted Numbers

Does anyone know why VZW does not offer a service to block unknown/restricted callers? I get at least 4-5 calls a week asking for this service, everybody I know subscribes to it on their landline.

Its not like this is some snazzy new feature requiring all kinds of complicated programming and cutting edge equipment (landlines have had this for decades). Since the ringback tone service can have caller id based customization it would seem to be an easy service to implement. It also must not be very expensive to run since I just saw it offered for no charge as part of a voicemail suite by a free site youmail.com.

Any ideas?

So odd... that's the second time I've seen this on here. If I get a private call I usually want to answer it. They are usually the important calls to take. It's not like telemarketers call private or restricted.

This would be my reasoning. Really, a lot of companies restrict their numbers, so you're potentially missing out on a lot of calls that you'd probably WANT to get. Blocking restricted numbers also causes confusion for other people you know who block their caller ID from showing up. It's a pain.
