The surprise of the Versa

I am still trying to find out why the Versa is at the high price of 199.00 when they cut back on the camera to 2mp and passed on a 3.5mm jack. Plus with the keyboard feature make the phone a quite a bit inconvenient. Plus the phone looks ugly when the attachment is on. On top of all of that the web browser is slower on this phone than with the dare. I would figure that this would be a 99.99-129.00 range not 199.00. Let me know what all of you guys think. Thanks again.

I wonder the very same thing, especially in light of the fact that there are very few reviews posted. I have asked in the Versa forum about the calendar, but alas, no responses. There have been some good posts on here about it though, and the general concensus is that it is a good phone. I still wonder why it costs so much more than the Dare?

The one thing I can say about this Versa though is the touch screen is amazing. I got to play with it in the store it is on par with the Iphone for speed and accuracy. Its just the setbacks and the awkwardness that make me say that this phone is not worth the price. Plus it is a 3D screen with several customizing options. But as we do see it is not a not really catching on. When we do look at the forum and lack of reviews.

It means it isn't catching on with the people at phonescoop... it's been a really big hit in our store. we can't keep them in stock.

NO its not on par with the iPhone screen, but not many other touchscreens are... Not a fanboy but a fact is a fact... Yes I'm a dedicated verizon user and not an iPhone owner either..

For me, the iphone screen is a bit too sensitive for me, especially when it comes to typing. I'm fat fingered, so the touch screen that feels the most natural is the Storm, followed by the Versa/Dare The touch screen on the iphone is great for moving between applications, but it "confirms" a lot faster than I want it to.

According to my verizon rep, the Versa has a better processor in it than even the omnia. Even if this isn't true, it at least has a stronger processor in it than most other dumbphones out there.

The touch screen technology is significantly improved over the voyager and the dare, and the actual interface itself seems to work a lot better.

A lot of people like the looks of the phone, even with the keyboard attached. So calling it "ugly" or even "amazing looking" is purely subjective. I think that this phone looks much better than the dare, and I like the case, but that doesn't mean everyone will.

It's also a planned "gaming" platform. when pictures of the phone first launched, they showed a gaming pad (instead of a keyboard) so th...

And do people seem satisfied? Not a lot of returns? My daughter really wants one when her contract is up in July so the feedback is very helpful. Thanks!

I haven't had a single return on that phone yet. I've sold it to tweens, and to soccer moms who felt the touch screen made it easier to work than an env2. It seems to have a broad appeal around here.

All that being said . . . when does it go on sale for a reasonable price. (BTW, they should also make the attachable keyboard an option and save money there as well.)

it has a more powerful processor than the Omnia, it's retail cost is signifigantly more than the ENV2 or Voyager (and quite a bit more than the Dare)

being that it is only $20 more than the dare, I'd say that it is already at a reasonable price. You can't expect phones to always be free no matter how much they can do. This thing is almost a smartphone (if you could load Windows on it, I'm almost sure it could run it better than some smartphones) You won't see a significant price drop until all LG's come down for some sale, or until right before the Versa 2. This thing retails at almost the same cost as the Pearl, but unlike the pearl it does not require a data plan, so it can't be subsidized nearly as much.

Additionally, they will have other keyboard options coming out (at least that's what I've heard) but they're not going to ship the phone without the keyboard. It is a part of the device. If they didn't include the keyboard people would be complaining that Verizon was trying to "nickel and dime" them again. And considering how much people already complain about that over nothing (and over "optional" features like what you are asking) this would just fuel the fire.

Also, not including it would not significantly impact the price. I'm saying maybe $15 if that, and the keyboard would then be 75+

That's good to hear. I was afraid they would go crazy with them when they first launched.

Have you got a chance to try one out yet and see how it works?

In my area, the Verizon and indirect reps who carry it haven't been pleased. I sent mine back after it fried itself on me, but when I had it I wasn't wowed by anything. I found the touch screen a little unresponsive, and didn't like using the keyboard because most of the phone's weight is on the back (it's not balanced well, in my opinion). My coworker who has it doesn't like the keyboard, and isn't a big fan of the phone. He'd rather be back on his LG Venus, which wasn't his fave either.

A friend in indirect has swapped his out twice already - in the first 30 days. His coworker sold his online and went back to some other phone.

On the other hand, I have seen very few returns or problems with the phone. My experience (the problem...
