I would think he'd have to have a Verizon SID programmed in to the phone manually first before *228 will work. Otherwise he'll get Alltel, right?

Well he can hit *22801 or *22800 to force it to vzw and then hit option 3 and that should work fine!!

It will not work, as the esn needs to be loaded in vzw's database.

You can send the phone into vzw's testing center and after a few weeks, they mail the phone back to you with a yes/no answer.

Remember, VZW has allowed customers to use non _vzw cdma phones (sprint, altel etc) for the past year now. Started around Jan 2008. You just have to send it in for testing/approval. You can take the phone to a retail store, there's a form you fill out and mail to the testing center.
