Rigorous phone testing my donkey

VZW says that they test phones rigorously. That is a bunch of hooey because I bought a phone and it was deffective. I'm saying its a bunch of hooey because im assuming that vzw tests EACH phone that is made.

If you're reading this candymeyer--this message is for you. Don't automatically assume that every phone made is tested, phones are made by the thousands and its not feasible to test each phone. I'm sorry that the phone you bought ended up being defective but its simply illogical to blame the carrier

Just like any other large scale production, lemons do in fact, slip through the cracks. I agree with you, I don't care how much or how "rigorous" the testing / troubleshooting is, defects are going to occur and from time to time they will end up in the hands of a customer that has just signed up for a 2yr. contract, excuse me "agreement", and it will usually happen to those customers who are apprehensive about 2yr "agreements" and have switched to Verizon from another carrier. Then they have a bad start and it is up to the salesperson to keep that customer from harboring bad feelings about Verizon and/or the agent that sold them the phone!

No doubt about it. Also, I wasn't a new customer. I've gone from GTE Mobilnet to Airtouch to Verizon via the buyout's and mergers since the 80's. Funny thing is when I went to Cingular, one of the two phones I got from them was defective, but the other worked so well I replaced the defective phone and have no more problems. All the phones are/were Nokia's. I needed a new phone since my old phone was only good for a regional plan instead of a national plan.

More than the phones, the biggest plus to my switching has been the 7PM nights option. Coverage is equal where I live, work, and play, plus my ATTWS TDMA grabs analog if needed. About Nokia's, almost everyone I know has one, or wishes they did. Nokia RF is the best, and no one I know ha...

I wonder why it is that there seem to be few Nokia CMDA phones?

Nokia preferred to make their own CDMA chip instead of using Qualcomm's to avoid paying royalties to Qualcomm ... which to be honest isn't as good yet, when it becomes on par in terms of RF performance on the CDMA side they will probably come out with a lot more handsets.

Also, keep in mind carriers tell us their handsets are being "exhaustively tested" for PR reasons. People want to hear that their phones are tested till the cows come home. And then they go h...

I think you've kind of taken that message the wrong way. Obviously every single handset isn't tested. I'd say the majority of them aren't at all. I'm sure for quality control 1 out of every so many is tested. What is meant by that message is that every model of handset is thoroughly test. Take the Samsung A670 for example. I'm sure that particular model went through months and months of tests to make sure it behaved the way they wanted it to. They only need to test one or two of them in reality. They should all perform the same. Every single phone produced isn't tested... DUH!

So, does anybody know when they're going to start using the newly acquired towers. Also, I heard in one post that these will only be used for high-speed data. Can anybody confirm or deny this?

Sometimes if a manufacturer is behind they ask them to do testing themselves. Nokia back in the day at vzw did not test their phones when they were asked to and made up testing numbers. Once vzw found this out they got pissed and I Believe that is why vzw has a bad taste in its mouth over nokia... however lately nokia phones have had some of the best testing results out of all the handsets.

I work for cingular and a rep for motorola said that our standards are even more strict than verizon. Cingular is more involved than any wireless carrier in developing phones. But we still get some real pieces of crap for phones. The phones are not made as well as the old brick phones that lasted forever. YOu have to understand that these phones are mass produced so bad apples happen.

Yeah and we know how many motos vzw has... the nokia rep told me that their phone was testing the best on vzws network about 4 years ago and it was one of the worst cause they lied about their testing results... yeah manufacture reps know all the info 🙄

Companies give one phone for the carriers to test and they some times make the same phone with cheaper parts for the customers to buy. Motorola has been very guilty of that in the past.

Rigorous phone testing would cost VZW too much money. Why do you think VZW makes you people dial *228 and pass it off as a FREE SOFTWARE UPGRADE.
