I am porting over to verizon ancd had a question bout the GPS in thier phones. I was wondering if I can download google maps and use it like I have been with my at&t phones instead of paying for the VZ navgator?

Because Im thinking of getting the enV touch and I do use the GPS for directions, but not enough to pay the 10 bucks a month, Ive used google maps on all my phones with at&t and would like to use it with verizon aswell.

Verizon has been moving away from locking their phones down, with GPS being one of the areas with the biggest improvements. Last I knew for sure, it was only their smartphones they were unlocking GPS on to be able to use Google Maps...

Verizon phones are BREW. You can't just download programs like that. You're only options are things listed in Get It Now. There are no other GPS options except VZ Navigator on a regular dumb phone with Verizon. On a PDA, yes, most are unlocked for GPS now.

Someone had a hack for the XV6800 that enabled Google Maps to use GPS...but VZW figured out how to kill that around March this year.
I miss my portable XV6800 GPS helping me find the nearest Starbucks!
