My wife is eligible for a upgrade from NE2 and we want to hear your opinions on the best phone that will not cost us anything if we sign up for one year. Currently she is no longer contracted.

Solid reception is most important. analog would be helpful as would speaker phone and pictures as least important but nice to have (if pic quality is present).

True...if you sign for another 2 year your gonna get the best deal. 1 yr really isn't feasible for the big discounts.

Best deal? The discount you get on the handset isn't worth what you'll spend over the course of a second year.

why isn't it worth it? Your either on a contract using the service or month to month. Since he seems to be wanting service again, he must like verizon...so why not get the better deal up front? He's going to be paying for service no matter who he signs a contract with.

she is already eligible for a upgrade. the issue is what phones that meet the criteria I have stated exist that will cost zero after the $100 NE2 credit.

We may not even sign a contract.

You can only redeem the $100 NE2 credit if you sign a two year contract.

Sammy, spend the money ($50-$80 bucks) and get a Nokia 6015i, an LG vx3200, or a Motorola v265...and screw the second year. You'll still come out ahead.

Never ever do a 2 year contract. If for some reason you end up hating the company to get out of it, you have to pay the "early termination fee" or ETF.
It makes more sense to pay a little bit more for the phone, than to be a prisoner in a two year contract,
I myself just finished a one year contract this past Jan/05 and I am month to month. This way whichvever carrier has the most to offer(yes at this time I'm a Vrz. customer) go when them.
And I'm sure there'll be a lot of people who will probably disagree with this logic. I have been a cell phone only customer since 1996, I know of what I am talking about.
I hope this helps!

you know what, i've been a cell phone user since 1993 and i've tried almost all carriers(AT&T, LaCellular, Cingular, T-mobile, Sprint) except Nextel. When it comes to reception and realiability, they all suck! The only carrier I would use is VZW (even though they have crappy phones) just because they're the only carrier i can make calls on without worrying about dropping calls constantly. So a 2 year contract wouldn't hurt. Maybe that's why you're still a VZW customer even though you're on a month to month contract. It doesn't make sense to purchase a $200-$300 phone if you're sticking with same company for years.

I'm one of those who disagrees with you. Although the ETF is $175, the savings by exercising my NE2 option is $100. In the unlikely event that something leads me to want to drop Verizon in the middle of my two year contract, it will have cost me only $75 (the $175 ETF minus the $100 saved by having exercised my NE2 option). Since it is highly unlikely that I will want to terminate my Verizon coverage in the middle of my contract, I am most likely $100 ahead by having been willing to extend my contract for two years.

And another thing about the "100 dollar credit" is off the ALREADY discounted price of a two year. So where (for example) the retail price of the 7000 is about 300. You end up getting it for free after a 50 mail in rebate. Which is a savings of hmm 300 dollars.. The 175 would be worth it if you were really that unhappy.. but I mean really depending on the issue or problem you are having chances are you wont find another company that isn't set up the same way. Coverage is great with vzw and cingular. They both have VERY similar business formats but vzw gives you new every two. So you are already with a company that has "the most reliable network" and you have the possibility to save 300 dollars and you have been happy this far.. is it just co...

the NE2 is a nice deal. The only thing that should change your mind on the NE2 is if you like to change phones all the time, then pay the extra for the year contract price, this way you are eligible to get a new phone every year under the year contract price, as we all know new and better phones are always coming out and this way, you can get the new and better phones every year, you don't have to wait for your NE2 to come about. It is what you want to do, I know of people that buy a new phone every year at full retail price, I keep telling them, just do the year contract price at least, then you would save a little money and still only be tied to them for a year, but they don't like the idea of a contract. It is your money, there is no ...

If you do the NE2 deal, I would go for the LG7000 right now, with rebate, that is free, and is a very nice phone. The camera and video camera work nice on them, and best of all, the phone works great, have not had any issues with the phone working. The downside is, that it is not trimode, all digital, I have not had an issue there, but didn't think I would since on my trimode phone, the only times and very few times I was on analog, it was in a bad area anyway, and it didn't work very good anyway. Look at your service map and see if you go thru areas that are analog service. If you need a trimode, your options just went down big time, verizon does not offer very good selection for trimode phones, the LG 6100 might be your best option the...
